Buy Porsche 917 Owners' Workshop Manual: Owners' Workshop Manual 1969 onwards (all models) (Haynes Owners' Workshop Manual) by Ian Wagstaff (ISBN: 9780857337658) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: A good addition to the documentation of the world's most iconic racing car. - My favourite car ever! I would have liked more technical details. eg about welding of the magnesium chassis inside a chamber of inert gas. However the chassis list is handy and the photographs are interesting. I liked the comments from some of the ex-drivers. Worth the money. Review: Awesome little book about the iconic 917 - Probably, there is not a car with so many books written about it than the iconic Porsche 917. At first sight, this one could be considered just another one. Even its 150 pages could be look not enough for this car, but having read it from cover to cover, I am impressed with this little jewel. The book is interestingly divided into chapters that give the reader a complete vision of the car. The teams who run it through the 1969-71 period, the drivers, how they solved the initial problems... The chapter titled "The mechanics' view" enriches greatly the value of the book from that point of view. The technical chapter deploys a very interesting range of pictures showing different parts of the beast. I particularly love the cutaways of the 917K and 917/10 versions, the engines and other details such as a check list or documents used by the Porsche Team at the time. The comments of some drivers and current owners of some of the cars add an extra value to the volume. A chassis by chassis record is also featured, which I found really delightful. At the end of the book, several appendixes collect technical characteristics, the wins in the main championships where the different versions of the 917 took part and even extracts from the FIA rules and technical definitions. As I said, a truly jewel.

A wonderful gift for the Porsche lover who already owns a copy of "Excellence was Expected." Not really a workshop manual in the Haynes tradition, there's a lot of information about the 917 and an incredible collection of close-up photographs from every angle. If you have even a passing interest in the 917, or fondly remember the 917K in Gulf baby blue and orange that Steve McQueen drove in "LeMans," or for that matter ever watched "LeMans" from beginning to end, then you'll definitely want to add this book to your wish list right now!
