Learn As You Play Clarinet (Book & CD) : Wastall, Peter: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: A well - planned beginners' course book - I am a retired person teaching myself clarinet and this book is a well-planned course for beginners. It introduces notes a few at a time, starting with the easiest to master and gets the player going on simple tunes straight away. I think if you were not having lessons with a tutor you would also need to refer to an online tutorial to understand correct embouchure and breathing (I have found Clarinet Mentors on Youtube a good extra resource). The book comes with a CD of backing tracks for all the pieces in the book (64 in total) and there is also a link to an online resource of backing tracks with clarinet as well so you can hear how you should sound. I practise almost every day and after 3 months I am only about a third of the way through the book - so value for money. Review: Excellent first book - As I'm new to the Clarinet I have to be honest and say, I bought this book based on reviews only. But when it arrived I realised the reviews were true and within a few hours I was actually playing tunes....how fabulous is that!!! It is easy to follow and understand and you feel quite accomplished within a short space of time....yes there was the odd 'squeaky' note like I was calling the Elephants but hey apparently that's normal ;) It has made me smile and laugh so well worth it.

Great self tuition book.
This book is clear and concise. Progress is really good and with the online demo tracks, so easy to follow. The cd is great once you listen to the demo so you can play with just the accompaniment. Half way through and really feel I am coming along leaps and bounds. Highly recommend this book for self tuition.

Very helpful book
This book has helped me to get started , I had never played a clarinet before , felt rather daunted with it all to start with but as the weeks went by the sound is getting better, it is well set out, and shows you where all the notes are, i like the way it has introduced the high and low notes.

My ears tell me it's a good book
I am as musical as a dustbin lid, I have given people lifts in my car and as soon as I start singing to a song on the radio they beg me to stop and let them out. Anyway, my youngest has this book as it was recommended. She likes it and it must be a decent book to learn from since her playing has developed quickly from the sound of 'worn out brake pads' to proper musical melodies. I will give it 5 stars.

Easy to Follow
Bought for my son as he began his clarinet lessons and advised by the school to purchase. Delighted with the additional CD and even I, who is musically challenged could follow the first few pages! Was really helpful in helping boost his confidence when he first started.

A little dissapointed
As learning the clarinet books go, it's ok, but I mainly brought this for the CD, bit dissapointed that it only played background music, which didnt help me at all. Was hoping it would play the tune I was learning so I knew that I got it right. Would advise to look at other books, however the explanations and note details are good in this one, but other than that, not sure if I am actually learning or hindering my learning.

A Breath Of Fresh Air
The new edition of this 25 year old stalwart in the world of clarinet playing is an absolute delight. The new format and the accompaniments are an inspiration to the new generation of those people who are learning to play the clarinet. The additional material available free through the Boosey website is also excellent.

Preso per il mio bimbo che e' alle prime armi con lo strumento, vedo che l'insegnante sta seguendo il testo senza fatica e lui per ora adora le prime canzoncine.
