Hi They are fine for cold water and tropical. Just rinse them off under water and put in your tank.

What is the packaging like? Is there a wee leaflet explaining them? As sending as a gift

The ones I purchased were sent in a clear plastic envelope with a small sticker with some basic instructions on water changing and care. It was not much but it did the job, my marimo moss balls are still doing well. I have sent these as a gift before and included my own note on what they were etc. and included gravel, glass container and a decorative shell. Hope that helps.

Great Outdoor Frog Pond Usage

Bad packaging

I love this product but they caked packaged with out water causing them to start to become brown which is a sign they aren’t ok or dying except from that one moss ball they are great
