They start to seize if the bike has been sitting for a while and when you free them off they are a bit rough. I've never had one on a bike long enough to develop any significant play. I have tried regularly popping off the seals and relubricating and this does extend the life a bit but not hugely. The bearings seem to get water inside and I'm not sure why, I don't use a pressure washer in that area. I do live in the Scottish Borders so perhaps it's just all the muddy puddles. I've tried more expensive BBs and have had them last longer but the economics don't stack up.
