GOLDEN Glazing Liquid Satin is a specially formulated liquid medium designed to have longer working time than typical acrylic mediums. Very useful for fine art applications where subtle blending, subtractive techniques and similar methods are desired. Also ideal for decorative painting techniques. Available in Gloss and Satin.

I needed something to dilute metallic glaze for a furniture project, and after a lot of research, I decided to go with this one from Golden Artist Colors. I’m happy to say it was a great choice. The consistency is absolutely perfect. It adds working time, smooths out application, and helps create a beautiful semi-transparent finish without streaking or buildup. It blends easily and gives you time to really finesse the look. For my project, I mixed it 3:1 with a metallic antiquing glaze from Heirloom Traditions Paint to create a subtle, shimmery effect on the top of a desk. It worked fantastically. The finish came out soft, elegant, and professional looking. One thing that really impressed me is that I accidentally left my mixture out overnight, and it was still perfectly usable the next day. No drying, no weird texture, no waste. This glazing medium is easy to use, very flexible for different applications, and helps you achieve a beautiful, custom finish. If you do furniture refinishing or decorative painting, this is a product worth having in your studio. I’m definitely happy with it and will keep using it for future projects.

**Q: Can this be mixed with latex paint to create a faux finish on a wall that has a latex satin base?**
A: It’s more economical to buy a gallon of Behr Ultra (or whatever paint you prefer) in a deep base (whatever sheen you prefer). The deep base dries clear so don’t get it tinted, just buy it as is. You can adjust the “open” (workable) time by adding floetrol and water. You can also run a humidifier in the room to further enhance working time. Then, you adjust the opacity of your faux color by the ratio of paint to the above mix. For example, some faux techniques look best with a 5 part glaze to 1 part paint whereas others look best with a 25:1 ratio. They sell gallon glazes for faux but the above mix works better, and is a lot more economical.
