After some googling it seems to affect people a lot. Nothing we tried would make it work again. Such a pity as this product was brilliant when it worked. One very disappointed little girl. Will not buy another. *******I was fairly dubious about buying this for a few reasons. I was against getting my 7 year old a 'phone' and also due to the negative reviews.PROS- Arrived very quickly and packaged very well.- Lovely large screen and almost looks like a mini tablet.- Once opened the instructions were very simple and easy to do in a few steps. It came with a USB charger or a plug charger, so I plugged it in to charge on my laptop while I set it up. After setting up a Learning Lodge account we were set up.- The messaging app 'Kidiconnect' is great! I added some of my daughters cousins and friends, along with me and her dad. It is very safe and no one can message her unless they have been invited and approved by me which is great. It also will not allow the child to delete their chat history unless a parent approves. It sends pictures, images, drawings and voice memos which is great and it keeps her entertained for ages sending messages.- Some of the apps and games are great also which she plays with and there is an option to pay and download more, but to be honest, the messaging app is really what she wants.- Internet browser is on the device and you can turn it off so the child has no internet access which is great. The parental controls also limit the time the child can spend on the device and this is the reason I chose this device.If my daughter thinks it stops working itself daily. rather than me turning it off, it really helps!CONS- The Kidiconnect messaging app works great with my android phone, but there seems to be issues with it crashing when you download the app for iphone. As the phone itself runs on an android platform, it works great android to android. My husband keeps getting kicked out of his app on the iphone, but that for me isn't a bother really as it still works most of the time. It is a bug that they will hopefully update.- The pink version is almost 20 pounds more expensive than the black one! This is ridiculous! I bought the black one as there is no way to justify that price for a different colour.Overall I am very happy I took the leap of faith and ordered this despite some negative reviews. The only thing I would like is they fix the buggy iphone Kidiconnect app. Other than that, this is the perfect device for small kids. It has the parental controls and the safe messaging app that I wanted and also doesn't allow calls.I would definitely recommend and it is hours of entertainment for a permanently bored 7 year old girl!I bought the black one as it was nearly 20 pounds extra to buy it in pink! ### ⭐⭐⭐ Stopped working after 6 months - update *by A***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 September 2021* My 7yo son received this toy as a gift at Christmas in 2020. It was easy to set up and the parental controls were very useful for limiting his time. He really enjoyed playing with it.After six months, however it stopped working and wouldn't charge. I contacted VTECH and I sent the item back (which cost me €15 in registered post). I then received an email stating that I could chose a replacement item to the value of €109.99 on their website. They no longer stock this version of the kidicom and the latest version costs €129.99. I may have to incur customs charges due to brexit. So replacement of the faulty item may cost in excess of €60!I pointed this out but to no avail as they didn't even address this issue in their reply when I questioned this. They just repeated to choose item of same value. My son is now 8yo and this is the only VTECH toy that is suitable for him as the other items are for younger children.I am very disappointed in the poor customer services at VTECH.I would not recommend.Update: so after getting nowhere through email, I tried their helpline and after a 2 min call they posted out the item I wanted with no hassle.
