On a windy day, the straight 12-ft channel between our house and our neighbor creates a venturi effect, magnifying the strength of the wind and creating a safety hazard; so these cane rods are vital. The 1/2-inch thickness of the material strikes the right balance between strength and weight, and the design is simple, attractive and make for a quick and easy installation. The supplied hardware was adequate, but I opted for longer screws because of the soft cedar wood. Zoom in and you'll see the concrete anchors I installed, two for each rod. These anchors are easy to use and a snap to install, but make sure the rods are fastened to a sturdy support. I had to add 2x4 bracing because my lovely gate material was so flimsy. The forms for the anchors I improvised from PVC pipe scraps scrounged from ACE Hardware. I poured rapid-set Quickcrete (red bag) and jiggled everything for about 10 minutes until it set. Highly recommended. Price is right and love the look and function.

Easy to install on a vinyl gate, really good instructions for those of us who are only partly handy. I dropped a short piece of 3/4 inch PCV pipe, about 3 or so inches long, down into the hole in the ground for the rod to drop into and keep it stable and help it move freely. Works great, and we feel a little more secure now.
