The Truman Show [DVD]

Excellent film

Such a good movie by jim carrey whilst already being an amazing movie by itself really funny scifi and comedy which should be praised for what an oustanding movie it truly is.a must watch for scifi,comedy lovers and people who love fantastic movies.

Without doubt Jim Carrey's finest moment, The Truman Show is as much a satirical side-swipe at reality TV junkies and celebrity chasers as it is a film about a life lived in complete oblivion. Carrey plays Truman Burbank, an orphaned child whose every moment is captured on camera from birth. As the truth dawns on him that his life isn't what could be considered ordinary, he makes his escape, while the whole nation sit glued to their goggle-boxes. Ed Harris puts in a sinsiter turn as Christof the show's creator and the allusions to God and Adam are clear to spot. When Truman finally realises that his whole life has been a sham (as his yacht reaches the outer edge of the studio and crashes into the set), it is a cinematic classic full of as much pathos, hope and life-affirming chutzpah as any other film scene you might care to mention. The film works on so many levels, but the mania that has gripped the West, besotted as it is with I'm a Celebrity, Big Brother and all the rest of the trash that passes for entertainment, is what makes this film eerily prophetic and perfect at the same time.

I forgot how good this film was and it is kind of a reminder of what life is like in the current climate! Truman is a show based on the life of a guy who was put into this show as a baby and has been followed right through life to where he is now as an adult. However, he starts to get suspicious about his life and where he lives and things with the production start to go wrong. He continues to pursue these events and comes to the conclusion that things are not as they seem. I am not going to give the rest of the film away suffice it to say it is worth watching. This is Jim Carrey at his best and his perfomance is brilliant. Well worth the watch.

This is an excellent film which feels both cosy and sinister at the same time. If you could only see it from Truman's perspective you could be forgiven for thinking he was paranoid. It's a really thought provoking film especially now when surveillance is a way of life. It encourages the distinction between what is real and what isn't. How do we know our reality is actually real? Can we really be sure of that? Also, can a little paranoia actually be a healthy thing? Without giving the plot away, without his paranoid feelings the ending would have been very different. It also shows the pressure of TV on his relationships, the cost of betrayal and the loss of trust. Overall an excellent film Each time I watch it I see something new and thought provoking

The product itself was perfect; delivered very quickly, packaged great and with it's original cellophane etc. The film itself was OK. I liked the idea behind the film more than where the writers and director took the film in direction. It was thought provoking and original, and I love Jim Carey's character; realistic and compelling. The film just doesn't really develop much over the couple of hours, and I felt a lot more could have been done with the idea. It was refreshing to see Carey in a different role to his usual, type-cast roles, and he took it on well. It was, though, definitely worth the buy and watch and I will be recommending it to friends, purely for the original narrative.

The Truman Show Those out there that haven't seen Truman Burbank's story are missing out on one of the best movies in the history of cinema. The movie tells the surreal story of a man that finds himself in a real life TV show where everyone around him, including his wife and his best friend, are hired actors, paid to convince Burbank that his life is real. The known director Peter Weir, responsible for movies such as "Green Card", "Dead Poets' Society" and "Master and Commander", creates unbelievable tension by revealing more and more whilst keeping the movie on a realistic level, a hard job in itself. Ed Harris stars as the director of the "Truman Show", all in all this is a movie everyone should at least have watched once in a lifetime.

Dvd works perfectly

Simplemente advertir que NO lleva idioma Castellano, y que la imagen tampoco es muy nítida. Comentar que la he comprado por 3 euros por aquello de esperar a ese precio o uno menor. Es un riesgo guiarte de las opiniones con el tema del idioma y comprarla de Reino Unido,... algunas veces sale bien,... ésta MAL.

Does not play: reads incorrect code

Le souvenir du plaisir que j'avais eu à voir ce film il y a déjà plusieurs années ne pouvait que me persuader de le commander pour en faire profiter ma famille. Le scénario est simple et génial, Jim Carrey est parfait dans une prestation équilibrée (pas complètement déjanté comme l'image clownesque dont nous avons pris l'habitude). Il vaut mieux ne rien savoir, et surtout pas la fin pour apprécier ce film à sa juste valeur. Ensuite, on le revoit toujours avec beaucoup de joie et on a envie de le faire découvrir à son entourage. Ne vous renseignez pas, ne racontez rien si vous le connaissez. On peut également délirer sur les niveaux d'interprétation... Bref, presqu'un film culte quoi!

I placed the order for this DVD at 23.30 one evening but noticed immediately that I had ordered from the wrong seller ( I needed the DVD quickly for an English lesson I was giving). I wrote 30 minutes later to cancel the order and heard nothing. I assumed that nobody would have dealt with the order between my placing it and midnight. I wrote a day or so later asking for confirmation and still heard nothing! The order was sent 3 days after the cancellation and has now arrived 5 days after I have given the lesson. Nothing wrong with the DVD or delivery time but why not let me cancel this order and keep me as a customer?

This DVD will not play in the US. We tried to contact the seller but they did not respond.
