Question 1

Can you please tell me *precisely* what type of plastic these defraction gratings are made of? Not all plastics can be laser cut.

the film is a polyester substrate with an embossed holographic pattern.  the diffraction pattern is not actually cut...it is embossed!

Question 2

how do you apply this to a window?  I have a window on the top 1/2 of the main door to my house.  If I apply in strips, will the lines look bad?

Diffraction grating works by having 100's of tiny lines that basically diffract the light into rainbows. These lines are physically etched into the thin plastic. Even finger print smudges effect this. You couldn't glue it on bc the glue would fill in the lines. I'd recommend those sticky "glue dots" in the corners. I don't know if the strips will look bad because I can't see where you are putting it but I doubt it would be that much of an issue. I'd think that something like this would have to be redone every few years b/c it can't really be cleaned. You'd also want to make sure that it wasn't touched often or... you could set everything up and screw a piece of plexi over top  that's cleanable and wouldn't have to be worried about how delicate it is. That would protect the diffraction film. Also, as a side note, there has to be direct light in order for this to cast rainbows.

I want to put this on the outside or inside of a glass elevator. What should I use to attach it to the Glass so that the other side also looks good.

There is a video where EvanandKatelyn use UV boat resin to mount it to wood. It looked fairly good. If you can remove the glass to attach it, it might work.

Question 4

I want to make my own fireworks glasses.  Is this what I would want as the lenses (the double axis)?

Yes, I would recommend you that. Sheet 13500 lines/inch reflects in 8 directions, so it's really good for firework glasses.
