At first i had to remove and clean the magnaclean filter every weeks which in itself it not difficult to do as isolation valves are supplied together with a spanner in the kit. Now i clean it approx 6 months it certainly removes the deposits the black sludge was thick at first but not its only a thin layer attached to the magnet plastic sleeve. Cheaper than calling out a plumber for a noisy boiler and works all year round. A spare "O" ring is supplied in the kit also which is nice of them. It's a dirty job and i tend to use old newspaper to clean the magnet old sludge. This should be done one a year, or more often when first fitted. Don't forget to turn the taps back on prior to firing up the boiler. **Q: Where can i buy a spanner from to open the magna clean? mine is musding** A: That's bad it didn't come with one! You could try a local plumbers merchant alternatively I can only suggest you contact Magna clean direct. Last resort is returning your item and asking for a replacement. **Q: Is there a specific direction of flow? Can the return enter at the top and exit at the bottom?** A: No there is no direction of flow the return can enter either the top or the bottom inlet. There are 2 louvers inside the unit which collects non metallic debris they need to be turned around depending on which inlet you use as your flow. **Q: Can this be used for an LPG boiler?** A: The magnaclean basically removes solids and metal particles suspend in the water which travels around the heating system. The hot water cylinder coil and the radiators and asassociated pipes work. So your LPG boiler is basically the same as a standard gas boiler, only difference being the fuel type. A spare "O" ring is supplied in the kit also which is nice of them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good product *by P***. on 2 May 2026* Good product ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Product, but could be even better *by C***E on 12 May 2012* After doing some research it appeared that the Magna Clean product was probably the best filter to use. This type of filter is more or less essential (as well as power flushing) if you have a modern combination boiler, which are arguably the most unreliable modern appliance in your household. They block out and stop particles and debris which occur from the pipes and radiators. These cause many issues and break downs in new boilers. It does the job of picking up and stopping the debris very well. The product could be improved in two ways - note to manufacturer 1. It would be good to have part of the outside of the filter transparent so that you could see how much debris is in the filter and whether it needs to be cleaned out. 2.
