Going to the lakes...
The Lake District in the north of England is one of Britain's most popular vacation destinations. It has England's highest peaks, miles of trails, large beautiful lakes, and dozens of lovely villages. It even offers the homes of some of Britain's most treasured authors. The bad news: apart from the highly variable weather, the enterprising traveler may have to contend with large seasonal crowds, all bent on visiting the same popular locations. This portable pocket guide from Lonely Planet will help the enterprising traveler plan ahead, at least to book room and board, and perhaps to avoid the crowds altogether. The guide has a brisk commentary and lots of maps and color photographs. Hikers will like wish additional map coverage, but otherwise, this guide is an excellent planning resource. Recommended.
