Very tricky application. And the colors doesn't paint smooth, they dry patchy

... not really seeing that much of a difference between these and the Prima sets, which cost a WHOLE lot less, so I have to take a star away as the value for price is just not there. One slightly irritating thing was that the set came with all of the cakes rattling around loose, like they were never snapped in. Not just this one, but the other Earth set that I bought was the same way.

I have the shades of gold and I love them but the blue and green tinge with these just don’t look good. Looks gaudy. I hope I find some use. Maybe ocean scenes. Just for fun. I don’t recommend

I have been advised by 3 professionals artists to buy this brand of metallic watercolour paints and they don’t disappoint! The key thing they have all said is to add a small amount of water to the paint (preferably distilled water as that water won’t have impurities to it and you will get purer colour) and leave it for a few minutes for the paint to work/activate/be able to use properly. Don’t use these like normal watercolour paints where you immediately wet your brush and add it to the pan because it doesn’t work that way. Once the paint has liquidised a bit you then pick up the pigments using your brush very gently and only a tiny amount as it goes a long way. These are highly pigmented and they work brilliantly. Do remember that watercolours are translucent so don’t expect a block of colour like acrylic or gauache. The beauty of these colours are you can layer them on top of other water colour or gouache paint for a beautiful iridescent or metallic sheen. I bought these to paint stylised birds tummies to make their feathers gleaming and iridescent in colour. Even though these paints are expensive I can see myself using them a lot to get beautiful effects. As you get several different colours to a container they work out about £5 each individual colour aprox and that didn’t seem quite so bad. Since buying my first set, I have gone on to buy more of this series in different colours because I love the way they handle as I know how properly to use them! Personally I wouldn’t give these to children to use as they are too precious and expensive and children can be heavy handed. If you are heavily handed with these paints I can’t imagine them lasting very long! You can buy cheaper versions that may be more child friendly and able to stand up to them better. This is more professional use or to be used by older children who don’t need supervision or students. I would highly recommend getting a small plastic needleless syringe to apply the water to the pan because you don’t want to flood the pan with too much water!

Needed some metallic colours and research pulled up positive reviews on these. As quite expensive gave them a go and pleased I did. I use them with a brush on black watercolour paint, and have used with my dip pen for calligraphy. Really lovely. I also picked up the gold palette and would consider getting individual colours to suit what I need in the future.
