OWC Aura Prox 1.0TB Solid State Drive Upgrade Solution for MacBook Pro

The 256 GB drive in my MacBook Pro reached its capacity for data and required an upgrade. I Purchased the 1TB SSD drive from OWC to replace the original MacBook Pro Drive. The installation required a call to OWC, however, after that call I had little difficulty in removing the existing drive and replacing it with the OWC drive. I Purchased the kit which provided a housing for the old 256 GB SSD drive from the MacBook Pro and I’m now using that as a back up drive for the computer. Although it took some time to clone the old drive to the new, so far it has been a good improvement for the computer and will allow for continued long time use of my already 4 year old old MacBook Pro.

I love the fact that I could upgrade my Macbook Pro Retina. When I bought it from Apple, they told me it would not be upgradable and I better buy it loaded. Now when I finally need it, I can upgrade it with OWC. I have used them before and have been happy every time. I had a little problem with the upgrade and called there support number. In a few minutes, he told me what to do and emailed me detailed instructions. Fortunately, I had already upgraded to High Sierra which is a requirement for this drive. During the process, the MacOS installation installed Mojave. I was a little concerned I would encounter a problem, but restoring my apps and files went fine.

compared to original ssd (apple -> made by Samsung) the owc ssd is:1. missing temperature sensor2. slower as following: reads: down from 2000 to 1000 twice slower!!! (notable difference) writes: down from 1350 to 9753. missing capabilities, instead of 1x you get 4x (missing capabilities)of course, I am using latest and greatest os (developer here)please see (with your own eyes) attached screen shots:

Got the unit delivered today. Was looking forward to installing it but the package states that if you are putting it in a 2013 version you need a heatsink part not included.No where....not even on the owc website states that you need that part.What a garbage company for stating this only after you have spent over $600 to get the ssd.

It's very fast and was easy to install. You can install it multiple ways, I did a clean install to just start over and I had zero issues. It's a very easy install, especially because they provide for you the right screw drivers you will need for your MacBook to do this.

The extra space is nice, but I had to remove the drive and go back to a smaller one due to the issues associated with the drive. It would cause my MBP to go crazy slow and then would not properly shut down. Don't buy this product.

OWC knows that this is a broken-as-shipped product, and regularly causes kernel panics. These issues remain unfixed months after release. It's thoroughly and completely recommended to give this a hard pass, as you will have nothing but problems.
