This is a night vision camera, NOT a monocular. You cannot hold it up to your eye and look through it because it is a camera feeding an LCD screen. It has a face-fit light shield around the screen as if it were a monocular - but it isn't. The brightness of the screen will, in fact, ruin your own night vision and make it harder for you to see things immediately around you in the dark, and light yourself for others to see. If you try to put it up to your eye you will see a bright blur that no amount of fiddling with the focus could ever fix. Because it isn't a monocular. The field of view is pretty narrow, lending itself to distance shots. Otherwise, it is a pretty good camera for the price. Image isn't bad. The included battery is rechargeable through the included USB cable and has good battery life. The included microSD card is also nice, as well as the mini tripod which as far as I can tell should be usable with other tripod mount devices and is very sturdy.

So this is a great addition to anyone's arsenal. But be cautioned that IR is not the same as thermal or ambient light. Those options are quite expensive. This item fills the space with invisible infrared light which the camera detects and gives a bright field of view. You are, however, a beacon for those who do have ambient light tech. But for general purpose camping and hiking and lighting up the immediate surrounding environment. Not for much distance though. It is very easy to use and intuitive. And everything works well it weighs practically nothing. I'm definitely keeping it! I'm glad I have it but it is IR technology so it is limited. However, for this price it's easy to justify owning.

Very portable, bright screen (can be turned down); the screen is very readable, for some reason I wasn't able to capture the clearness of the screen when using it in the dark. The menu is easy to use, to set up time and other settings. At 8x digital zoom in the dark; the included tripod came in handy. When using the top buttons, there is a low click sound that lets you know that you've pressed a button. The image is all digital, it's in color during daytime. There is a focus ring on the end of the lens. The rubber eyepiece cover can be removed, but it helps keep light out. I recommend installing the hand strap right away; it makes it very easy to hold, and not worry about dropping it. Comes with a light duty case as well. To get usable night vision at this price was pretty shocking. Watch out muskrats!

Didn't bother to try the recording or photos. The screen size is very small. The other folks saying that it is not a monocular, that the field of view is way too narrow, and that it is no good for indoor use are absolutely correct. This can certainly give away your position even on the low brightness setting. I as a 36 year old with perfect vision cant focus on the screen any less than 6-8 inches away without it hurting my eyes. Further away, it becomes very impractical because the screen size is so small. The small field of view is useless for walking around at night. This device is almost more debilitating than helpful. It is however, decently clear when you focus it correctly.

It fits in your hand. Comes with a tripod. You can take pictures on it. You can record in the dark and still see what’s around you. It’s very easy to use.

Keep in mind that this is basically the equivalent of a kids walkie talkie. That said this is surprisingly decent for the price.

This is a really cool piece of hardware. The monocular has pretty good zoom letting you see things 200-300 meters out very clearly. The standard (no digital zoom) field of view is fairly narrow. i wouldn't recommend it for night vision to walk around with but for spotting targets it's great. The IR illumination has 8 modes allowing you to control the intensity which is nice when scouting in enclosed spaces.(Keep in mind it is active IR which is great for most non-tactical scenarios) You can also record video and take photos in both regular and IR active mode. For the price I think this worth it. I'd definitely buy it again.

The bad: Bought for a nighttime airsoft game and it sucked. This is not well suited for use in a forest environment as the illuminator reflects off close foliage and blinds you from seeing past it. The good: However this is ideal for urban or more open environments. I was clearly able to make out toolbelts hung on steel studs at the construction site across the street in pitch black.

If there is negative star i will. I don’t u derstand how other people rate this 5star. Can you post any picture that was taken from this? The LCD screen is too little you can not almost see any. The standard view is also like in already zoom mode you cant use it in a landscape mode or wide angle mode its always almost zoomed already. Also even its already zoomed the picture quality is almost imposible to recognize. Here is the plant in a very good lighting you cant even recognize its a z plant. Also the infrared is useless its so blurry and its like zoomed already. Pictures show what you see in the cam and compare to what you see in cellphone camera. (: what a waste of time now i need to bring it to return it and i need to drive around 10 to 15.
