This has been a nice change from alcohol-based mouthwashes — no harsh burning or stinging sensation, so it’s actually comfortable to use twice a day without dreading it. Breath feels genuinely fresh afterward, not just masked temporarily. Gums feel less irritated overall since switching, noticeable difference for anyone with sensitive gums or who’s had issues with alcohol-based rinses in the past. Getting a 2-pack means not running out and having to make an extra store trip anytime soon. No harsh chemical aftertaste, just clean and mild. Great option if you want an effective mouthwash without the discomfort that usually comes with it.

I recently discovered Dr. Ellie Phillips, an online preventive dentist, author, and oral health educator who promotes a "Complete Mouth Care System". She recommends using CloSYS Healthy Gums Mouthwash, which has a neutral PH, prior to brushing. Her reasoning is that it will neutralize any acid in your mouth (since acid softens enamel) so that the abrasiveness of the toothpaste will do less damage to your enamel. I don't follow Dr. Ellie's system to the letter, but one step that makes sense to me is using CloSYS before brushing. The taste of CloSYS took some getting used to at first, but now I'm fine with it. The antiplaque and anti-gingivitis benefits are a plus, but some toothpastes and other mouthwashes have these, as well. My gums appear healthier since I started using CloSYS, according to my dental hygienist. I also use a Sonicare toothbrush on the gum care setting, so the combination of the two is definitely working for me. The two-pack of 32-oz. bottles of CloSYS will last a very long time. In fact, one 32-oz. bottle (946 ml) contains about 63 of the recommended 15ml capfuls. So, using it once per day should last about two months and twice per day would last about a month. That makes it a pretty low-cost way of improving gum health. I do wish I had discovered this long ago, since I've had occasional gum issues in the past. My gums rarely bleed when flossing now, so that's one way I know it's working. I think it makes sense to incorporate CloSYS into your daily dental care routine. It's a minimal expense for a potentially significant benefit.

FLUORIDE FREE! That’s the reason to purchase this and the toothpaste from the same brand. It doesn’t burn your mouth. Doesn’t have the strong flavor as the major brands or leave you with an overpowering “minty breath” but does what a mouthwash needs to do. I avoid fluoride and artificial sweeteners as large exposure can be toxic.

Seems like a good product, made my mouth and teeth feel very clean, however after using it I can’t taste anything properly. My tongue feels weird and numb. This is all happening on first use of this product. I wasn’t sure if it was the mouthwash at first but I saw another review that talked about having the same experience. I wish I could continue using this cause it feels like a good product and I like this brand but nothing comes in between me and me enjoying my food lol. I heard someone talk about a technique where they put their tongue at the roof of their mouth while they rinse with the mouthwash, and they seemed to say it helped preserve their taste bud, so thats definitely an option. I on the other hand personally don’t want to continue using this product. Giving three starts because not everyone will have this experience I am having with this product and it could still be a good fit for you.

My hygienist suggested me using this, and it has helped with the sensitivity in my mouth tremendously. It is also helped with my gum health and my hygienist says that I’ve made great improvements and this mouthwash is the only thing I’ve changed in my routine. I would definitely suggest it for gum health and if you have a sensitive mouth. I’ve purchased is probably 11 times now.

I decided to try this version of Closys, but was dissappointed with the results. Rather than strengthen gums, was irritating and not helpful at all. I'm very familiar with Closys Ultra sensitive mouth rince and should have just ordered ir. I've the been traveling and unable to return it until now. Althought the return period has laspse, I hope you'll accept and allow be to return and order the Ultra Sensitive instead. Please Advise. Thank you, Ginger McDonald

OG review on 10/07/24: I ordered this because my hygienist recommended the brand and although she didn't say to get the healthy gum version specifically, she gave a sample of a different version, but she did say I'm in the beginning stages of developing gingivitis so I thought the same brand but the one for gum health would be the best. I decided to read the back of the bottle the first time I used it and noticed a warning about it staining teeth. I started researching why and found out the active ingredient Cetylpyridinium Chloride (aka CPC) can stain teeth. Apparently it cleans the plaque off and can improve gum health but leaves stains behind on both your teeth and tongue...so I guess your teeth won't actually rot or fall out but they'll turn brown instead? Wow. I read that staining only affects about 3% of people and I thought that I will just be diligent about brushing so stains can't develop, but I'm only a few days into using it and now noticed that my breath is grosser than ever too. Today I decided to just swish the mouthwash and spit, wait about 2-3 hours to let it help out my gums (I read that gums improve in 3-5 hours of exposure to CPC but didn't want to let it turn into stains either) before I brush it away so it doesn't leave stains. Well when I opened my mouth to start brushing I had a white stringy film on the back of my tongue and in my cheek. Soo it's causing oral thrushing as well. So then while I Googled the thrushing issue I found people complaining about losing their sense of taste, and I'm now realizing my sense of taste is off too and my tongue in kind of tinglingly as though it's starting to go numb, all coupled with this bad breath....other people said they lost their taste overnight after rinsing with it and it took a few days to come back. I have a feeling I won't be tasting anything but this nasty bad breath tomorrow. No way in hell am I going to use it long enough to test out whether or not I'm in the "3%" that gets stains from it too, I have a feeling the real number is higher than 3%. I also read that in supposedly "rare" cases it actually INCREASES TARTAR and the ingredient isn't even recommended by the ADA. This honestly seems like the worst thing you can put in your freaking mouth and as if some dental industry big wig bozo decided to push this ingredient as a sick joke. I also noticed that the cap had some brown gunk developing around it today that wasn't there when I first opened it. I'm guessing that gunk is due to the same staining affect it has on teeth. I can't believe they put this stuff in mouthwash. Apparently even ACT has this ingredient but it isn't listed as one the active ingredients so I'm guessing it's a much lower concentration of it? I'm going to just keep using ACT instead and because I think there would be more info circulating the internet if it stained teeth and caused oral thrush and loss of taste and so on the way this criminally overpriced trash water does. Probably will look for another alcohol free mouth wash that doesn't have it in the ingredients whatsoever after I finish my bottle of ACT. Right now just hoping my sense of taste improves by tomorrow because I just made a huge pot of the most delicious soup and have lots of leftovers and I want to enjoy it. Update 09/29/25: I made this comment almost a year ago and I'm kind of stunned that it's gotten well over 100 likes at this point. Amazon even invited me to their Vine Voices program like a week and half ago for being someone that writes good reviews lol. But I want to update this because I started to look into CPC again while I was talking about it with a friend and I realized I misspoke when I said CPC isn't approved by the ADA. I know I read that somewhere and while that's true, whoever wrote it likely wasn't educated about *why* it's not approved by the ADA or they were skewing facts. The ADA doesn't approve individual ingredients, they approve products as a whole, so there are actually products containing CPC that get approved by the ADA. Personally, that still doesn't change my opinion about it being absolutely god awful, but I like being factually correct.
