Or more correctly, rarely. There is a known issue where the new remote won’t pair with the older Bolt in RF mode which makes the voice functionality inoperable. And the remote will also not work without line out of site as a result. TiVo is aware of this issue and the forums are filled with unhappy customers but they’ve done nothing to address it other make customers wait through hour-long phone support queues to be told there is nothing that can be done but they are looking into it. **Q: Can this be used on roamio ota, or just bolt?** A: You are going to want a different remote--this one: https://www.amazon.com/TiVo-Remote-Dongle-Roamio-Mini/dp/B07635R5JB The actual remotes are the same, but the product above includes the dongle you need for the non-VOX Minis and the TiVo Roamios **Q: will this unit work on any Bolt without upgrading if you do not care to use the Voice control?** A: I answered this previously, but I'd like to change my answer. I think the only difference between a Bolt and a Vox is that the Vox is a Bolt that comes with the voice remote. Therefore I'd say that the Vox remote would also enable the voice control on your Bolt. Yes, this remote would definitely work with your bolt irregardless. I've had zero issues with it. The main thing to do is to pair it with your bolt by going into the menu settings on your Bolt and remote pairing. I recommend this remote. Also, as I said previously, there is a bluetooth usb that you can get that plugs into the back of a TiVo to enable blue tooth. But that is for enabling voice on a Roamio Tivo. I had the smaller remote that slides open with keyboard on it, but it finally died (possible with me dropping it?... duh.. ;-) ) . I loved that remote because it was small enough to press any button on it while holding in your hand. The regular p-nut remoted, like the one my wife likes, is too long. You have to shift your hand down the remote if you want to get to the CLEAR button. I use that often to clear the on-screen display info when I get to where I want to go (I'm too impatient to wait 3 seconds for it to clear. ha.) :-)So anyway... this fits perfect in my hand. It's just the right size with the buttons in all the right places. I love the backlight as well. Just pick it up and the light makes your remote glow... and without draining the battery. It's perfect!I don't have the TIVO VOX so the only button I don't use and can't use is voice control, but that doesn't matter to me one bit.
