Superman for All Seasons

A fantastic and heartfelt comic book; a tale for the ages!

Forget what you thought you knew. Forget the alien origin story. This is a story fundamentally about the development and maturity of Clark Joseph Kent. And the story is all the better for it. Deceptively simple, with whimsical artwork, 'For All Seasons' is a wonderful book, with much to be admired and a plot which looks at the effect of Superman on those around him.

For All Seasons was Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's follow up to their Batman Story, the Long Halloween. Both stories are amazing, definitive stories for their respective characters, though if I had to choose I'd say the Long Halloween is the stronger story. Like the Long Halloween, this is a Superman towards the start of his career and the story serves to establish much of the Superman canon. It's a Superman that is discovering his powers and his own identity. It's a wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated book (though I think Sale's style doesn't lend itself quite as well to Metropolis as it does to Gotham). I could easily recomend to anyone interested in comics.

Must be read before seeing James Gunn's Superman. Such a great take on the boy scout we all love. Brilliant.

Really introduces the character well, and what makes him so iconic outside of his power set or his villains. A page turner and especially uplifting

Love Tim sales art style for metropolis and Smallville and love the idea for each chapter representing a season. Jeph Loeb with his writing clearly understands superman's motivation for why he helps people and the characteristics of the man.

The story, the art, the characters! 10/10 for me, so heart warming and hope filled! I wish there was a sequel.

Another great outing for Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. A gentle Superman story told through the year from the different views of characters that are linked to Superman or Clark Kent. If you've enjoyed their other work together, you won't be disappointed.

Great story, it have a great pace and is very well written and brings 4 different point of views of the character of superman coming out of the world. Very good!

This is quintessential Superman. Don’t even read this, just buy it. It doesn’t get better. The art is fantastic. Tim Sale was a very unique artist, sometimes this look wonky, especially anatomy, and then you’d turn the page and see one of the most beautiful images in comic history. This whole book is like that. It’s a modern take on a classic art style, and it’s a masterclass. My very favorite from Tim Sale (even more than Batman: The Long Halloween). The writing is pitch perfect. As much as I love Grant Morrison’s Superman, at time he gets a little too cerebral. This IS Superman. It’s not dumb, or clunky, it’s engaging and inspiring and what comics should be. The story is fantastic, familiar but made into its own. It’s all heart. It’s flawless, and leaves me wanting more. If you’re not really familiar with Superman’s world, this is the PERFECT place to start. It’s an origin story that moves along quickly, and has all the major players. It’s a quick read, can be done in one or two sittings. It’s also one of the major influences for the (at this time) upcoming 2025 Superman movie. As far as the book quality: I have the paperback. It arrived in mint condition, the pages are slightly thin but glossy (normal comic pages). The printing is great, the colors and artwork are as vibrant as they should be. Very happy with this purchase.
