The slim tech worked well in my dressier shoes, where some other insoles (including the Powerstep ProTech) raised my foot up too much and pressed the top of my foot against the inside of my shoe. The SlimTech insoles did not do that. The support is high and the slim feature allows for plenty of space in my shoe. These are not soft, so don't expect any extra cushion out of these. The underside is a hard plastic, with a mildly softer fabric finish on the upside. I actually like the firm insoles better, as I find they hold up my arches better. I plan to buy more of these. I also recommend the Birkenstock BirkoBalance insoles if you also need stability.
