Yes, you can heat it up with the cover on but take care to read the instructions carefully! I find it is the best pain relief I have had so hope it helps you.

Inside is a gel like substance that is secure in a further protective layer , the soft fabric outer layer can be removed too when need be for washing. Hope that helps!

How long will the water bag last?

Yes, I can tell you there is absolutely no fragrance in this. It is a regular Hotties heat pack that you heat in the microwave and put in back in the sheep cover. It is not one of those lavender scented wheat packs. No scent, just heat, and sheep.
