I am looking to add extender but do not know if i need an identical to the one that came in the kit.** A: Was told by BT that their components are compatible with each other. I would suggest going onto BTs website and ask them via web chat. **Q: Does this item boost your wifi when plugged away from the router** A: Can do if you connect a WiFi repeater to it via a LAN cable and set it up right . That's one of the things I have done with it . But configuring WiFi repeater can be tricky . Best thing is to connect your gadget to it directly w cable . Much better than WiFi . **Q: Does this work with non bt router or is it strictly only for use with bt** A: You’ll need at least two of these. One plugs into your router (any make) using the supplied Ethernet cable. The second (and subsequent) ones go into other power sockets in your property and can be plugged into other devices that have a network (Ethernet) socket. Note that they don’t use wifi, they’re for devices that need a cable network connection. By using the supplied Ethernet cable *by J***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 April 2018* Item was exactly as described and arrived within 24 hours, brand new, in it's original sealed packaging. I paid around £30 (plus P & P for next day delivery) for a single unit. A twin pack from the BT online shop is currently retailing for £100 - so less than half price for the exact same product. I already had 2 x Mini Connectors (supplied by BT with the Hub) and needed a third one to reach a part of the house where the WiFi signal wasn't so strong. This product does the job perfectly. It linked to my existing Mini Connectors first time and works great. By using the supplied Ethernet cable, I was able to hardwire the connector to my desktop PC and my WiFi signal now measures around 60Mb/s.
