Is this good for a wood door in a humid steamy bathroom. I used Formby's tung finish and the door has some mold staining in spots now.

I love this product. We have a professional wood finisher who also works at our local woodcraft store . He swears by it and uses it as a base coat on all raw wood . Prior to all stains or top coats. It is essentially a 2 pound cut of shellac with out wax so polyurethane can go right on top. Brush it on and let dry 24 hours then light sand off with 320 or 400 grit paper. . If you stained underneath be careful not to sand too hard.The ting oil in humid conditions is not advisable . I'd chemically strip the old products off. Sand 80, 100,150,200 grit. Then alloy the sealcoat. Stain after that then top coat with general finishes ENDURO pre cat urethane. Three coatsHope this helps

Would this make a good topcoat final finish on pine?

I suppose I'll have to be the devil's advocate on this. You absolutely can use this product as a topcoat. It's simply dewaxed shellac. So, it's great for producing a traditional french polish gloss or even a lower gloss satin (depending upon how much you sand/polish). If you want to use it as a topcoat, you may need several coats of it to build up to the desired sheen. I make drums and I've used this product extensively as both a sanding sealer and a standalone finish.

What "cut" is this? One pound, two pound, etc?

This product contains wax-free shellac, 2-pound cut.

Will this work well over a general finishes dye stain (to seal) and under a satin poly? to lock in the dye stain, so the poly doesnt lift it

I have only used it as a pre-stain sealer on hard maple to provide more even and consistent stain (I use a gel stain usually). I think some experimentation is in order for your question although I would think it would work well under a satin poly.

Excellent for all kinds of sealing needs!

I recently purchased two matching antique bed frames made out of wood with a headboard and footboard each. They were quite dirty but otherwise in good shape. After cleaning them up, I wanted to restore the finish and add a layer of polyurethane for extra protection. After researching, I decided to start off with SealCoat since I did not know what the original stain or sealant was made of. I was so glad I found this product after searching "wood sealer" on Amazon, because you can't really find it in stores. This sealant goes on quite easily with a brush, and truly adheres to any surface, coating, or sealant. It also does a magical job of restoring a finish- my project was looking rough after a thorough clean with magic erasers, simple green, and a light sanding. After the first coat, any hazy spots, scratches, or weird water rings completely disappeared and it dried to a beautiful finish. I ended up doing two coats with a light sand (220 or finer) in-between coats. This SealCoat doesn't provide a super durable finish, so I opted to add two coats of water based polyurethane on top. The polyurethane adhered wonderfully to the SealCoat even without sanding. The project turned out great and I'm so happy I found this product which was very easy to use and produced an amazing result.

Great product, Poor packaging.

Great product as described and delivered promptly. Unfortunately can has been damaged and removing and replacing lid is difficult. Need better packaging for the future.
