Example a meeting room with about 20 people?** A: Set the microphone sensitivity to maximum and this recorder is eminently capable of making a good recording in which the most distant speaker can be clearly heard. Also, even with under-recorded material, (even whispers) the free audio software AUDACITY (downloaded separately) can easily / quickly ENHANCE the volume to reveal material. **Q: Can this be voice activated?** A: I'm 99% sure that it cannot be voice activated unless I didn't see the settings for it.Also, you would think that they would advertise with that kind of functionality... **Q: How long can you record for and does it make a sound when it stops** A: I'll answer in two parts:- 1) How much time is left depends entirely on how much memory you have left. You start off with 8GB, and you can purchase an additional Micro SD card of up to 32GB; you cannot use both tracks of memory - you must switch from one to the other. 2) I think it gives warning sounds a minute or more before it will stop recording. So to potential buyer: Record: Top notch Playback: Top notch Software for PC : could be much better ### ⭐⭐⭐ Not fully voice guided and fiddly buttons.- no use to me *by S***N on 5 August 2019* I bought this for recording meetings and other voice notes. My motivation for buying this device was that I am blind and I need to use it without needing to see a small screen. This item was listed as voice-guided so I though it would be suitable. Unfortunately, when it arrived, it appeared to be used as the packaging had been opened and the device had been reset. This process removes the voice guidance files. I checked the Olymus website and found that the voice-guidance files can be loaded for the Sonoros software that allows the device to be managed from a computer. I managed to get the files loaded into the device with some sighted assistance. This allowed me to start using the device and immediately determine that the voice-guidance only works on internal venues. Any items that can be changed such as folder names and recordings are not read out. No use to me then! The device is very nice. It is small and light. It has a number of preset input settings that help to improve the recording quality depending on the surroundings e.g. meeting, lecture, conference etc. Choosing the right preset makes a big difference to the recording. I was disappointed with the maximum volume of the device. Even at it's loudest, it wasn't loud enough and listening to it outdoors can be challenging. I did manage to make a few recordings and I used the Dragon Naturally Speaking setting to record a meeting before transcribing the recording in my Dragon software. The transcriptions good. I really like the bookmarking feature that allows you to set bookmarks while recording as this makes it easy to quickly work your way through long recording to find the bits that you are interested in. In summary... This is a nice little recorder. It is well built and easy to use (if you can see).
