Review: A quality product - I first came across this device at the Nick Nairn cook school. It has a very fine probe tip so that the probe can be inserted into meat easily and without leaving a large hole. The thermometer also displays the temperature very quickly. If the thermometer is not used for a while it automatically switches off , hence saving battery power. The thermometer is certainly not cheap, but, in my opinion, one is paying for quality. The supplied paperwork includes a calibration certificate and a booklet advising on how the thermometer can be used (including required internal meat temperatures for rare/medium/well-done steaks)

I have a couple of wireless probe thermometers but I wanted the Thermapen as it offers an easier way to take multiple readings from different items across the grill. It works very well. Getting a temperature reading takes just a few seconds. I take a sterilising wipe with me so that I can clean the probe before moving from one reading to another - this helps prevent cross contamination. Edit: Last weekend I manned the barbecue at my son's School Fete. We used the Thermapen to check that what we were selling had all reached safe temperatures. Given that we sold about 150 burgers and hotdogs I think it was a worthwhile safeguard, and it was quick and easy to perform the checks.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Improved food

This little gadget has all kinds of certificates and calibrations stating how accurate it is and that is reassuring. it would be worse than useless to have a food thermometer that was not accurate. Another good point is the speed it displays the temperature. it would defeat the point somewhat if the display took a long time to creep up. This gadget shows the food temperature in four seconds. Although a bit costly this gadget has improved the food I prepare significantly. Previously I used to overcook almost everything just to be on the safe side with the result that lots of what I cooked was dry and tough. Chicken and pork were my worst. Now this little gadget gives me the confidence to stop overcooking with juicier more flavoursome results. One tip I would give is that when testing a thin cut such as a chicken breast then take the meat from the pan with tongs and insert the probe sideways into the thickest part of the food. I found that this is not only easier but also avoids the possibility of the tip of the probe touching the pan and giving a wrong reading if the food was tested in situ. Definite 5 star for me.
