Westcott 7 foot 2.2m Parabolic Umbrella - White/Black

I bought this as a quick fix for my mistake in buying a difficult to assemble Octagon of almost the same size. The Westcott saved me a lot of worry and sweat on the day of a high pressure shoot, and I wish I'd found it before the Octagon, which cost more than twice the price. Anyway, the 2.2m umbrella is great value and does a brilliant job of lighting a large set and producing soft shadows. Probably not as durable as the Profoto archetype, but solid and useful, nonetheless. If you use Elinchroms, you will find the shaft won't fit the proprietry channel the heads provide for true centre lighting of the umbrella, and you will have to use additional angled umbrella fittings between the stands and the heads, to secure the 'brolly and position it in space. Didn't find this to be a problem. Quick delivery from this supplier.

Perfect for taking photos of groups of people, I use this currently for groups as it saves using two lights when this huge Umbrella covers a alot of people. As this item is approx: 7 ft make sure you have the room to set it up as it does take a lot of space. I have this fitted to my Bowens strobe light and works perfectly, The black section of the umbrella covers off and can be used as a shoot through as well. If on location make sure the stand is weighted down as the slightest wind and it's mary poppins time. Good delivery time 100% happy with this item. Build quality is excellent comes with nice case/sleeve to protect from dirt and dust and then comes in a nice solid tube for extra protection. Worth buying if your a studio Photographer with a good size room or studio.

Very soft light and affordable. Have also bought the sliver one which gives a slightly crisper light and a bit more output. I bought the diffuser as well which is brilliant. Only criticism is that the umbrella shaft although starts at 7mm tapers quickly to 8mm so is not suitable for Elinchrom 7mm fitting, despite the packaging saying otherwise.

Good quality, great size but one of the reasons I bought it was for the 7mm shaft to fit an elinchrom strobe holder built into the light, it does not fit! The tip of the shaft is tapered but this doesn't help at all. Would have been five stars but for that. Maybe an updated description to note this fact.

Lovely... well made and give beautiful light. I bought it to use with my Profoto brolly - I can barely tell the difference in light and the quality is only 5-10% off that of the Profoto but 1/3rd the price! Recommend this as a good option if you're thinking of purchasing ...

Great does the job

excellent umbrella, would of liked a slightly stronger staff, still love it though. tried and tested, would only use at 3/4 way down on staff from centre as near the end bends a little.which would take your light off centre. if you position your light correctly no problem at 3/4 way down shaft,. but saying that would recommend it. i use a SODIAL(R) 3 in 1 All-metal Tri-Hot Shoe Mount Adapter fr Flash Holder Bracket Light Stand which umbrella staff fits in easily.

Holy crap, is this one of the best light shapers I've ever used/purchased. If you need a large, soft light source then this is what you want. The price is a steal, and the quality is MUCH better than other large format umbrellas that I've used in the past. Case in point, old metal umbrella broke the first time I used it. This one has fallen twice without any repercussions. Oh, and about the falling over thing - these umbrellas are HUGE, so that means even small winds (1mph) will turn this into a sail boat. This was the case even when using a very heavy c-stand and 3 sand bags. The only way to keep these things up outdoors reliably is by having your assistant stand on the base and hold it steady - even then this thing will get away from you in higher winds. Here's the thing though, I've used this with a SINGLE speedlite and it has produced stunning results. And, because it's so big, you can use this in bright sun as both a light source and as a flag for bright sunlight!

Certes la courbure du parapluie fait bien les 2,2m mais la hauteur ouverte se limite à 1,7m. Dommage trop petit par rapport à mes espoirs.

I had been thinking about buying a really big lighting modifier for a long time to compliment my 3x3 softbox. I was not disappointed when I finally decided to buy this umbrella. It works great with the Profoto D1 and so far I have used it for group shots, straight on, standing between the motif and the light source.
