Good info, but damaged
I like the contents of the book. It covers a lot of practical information for my location, and is going to be useful to me. Unfortunately, it arrived with some sort of brown paper or tape stuck across the front. I have no idea how that happened, because it came in one of Amazon's shipping envelopes, and there wasn't anything inside it that could have become stuck to the book's cover like this. It must have been messed up before it went into the shipping envelope. Since the book isn't going to be a gift, I can live with the damage, but really Amazon?!?? Do better! (And don't try telling me that my review won't be published because it doesn't meet your community standards, because this is *exactly* the sort of info your customers need, and is a fair and unbiased evaluation of my purchase.)

Thorough and easy to read.
Liked the planning and planting diagrams. The listing of plants with invasive species indicated is a good feature.

Includes invasives as suggested plants
I glanced through this book while at the store. It has beautiful pictures, helpful tidbits on preparing the space and even how to build some key areas… such as a patio, an arbor and even a walking path. All terrific information. However, my intended purpose was from the 46 landscape designs. On many of the design proposals, not only are the plants not native to the area, they are invasive to the area. To the books credit, they are noted as being invasive. Why would these invasives be included in designs, then not even include options that are not invasive. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in this purchase. Not sure where to look next for native plant landscaping designs for the mid-Atlantic.

Irresponsible for authors to include invasive plants in their designs
Very disappointed that the authors include plants known to be invasive in their plans. While they indicate which plants are invasive, why did they include them at all? The beginning of the book starts out with an emphasis on preserving and protecting the environment, but invasive plants do just the opposite, pushing out native species and overwhelming them with plants that may not provide food for wildlife. Walk through the woods in the summer and you will be surrounded by Japanese barberry, spirea, multifloral roses, and other species. There are many alternative to these invasive plants. It's a shame the authors chose to include environmentally harmful plants in this book.
