Review: Fantastic Speaker That Does It All - I’m really impressed with the JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker. The sound is clear, loud and surprisingly deep for its size, and the bass has a nice punch without being muddy. Switching between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is quick and hassle-free, so I can use it around the house or outside without any fuss. The battery easily lasts all day — the 20-hour claim actually feels realistic. I also love that it’s waterproof and dustproof; I’ve used it by the pool and at the park with no worries at all. The build feels solid and durable, and the sleek black design looks great on a shelf or in a backpack. Overall, it’s a reliable, tough and great-sounding speaker — exactly what I hoped for, and totally worth the price.
Review: A useful alternative to the original Charge 5, if you need the features - I had been using the original Charge 5s in a stereo pair for about 18 months before trying this Wi-Fi version. The original Charge 5s are excellent speakers at the price, but there were two things that were annoying me about using them in stereo mode. Firstly, I had to go into the app and set them up as a stereo pair every time I wanted to use them, and secondly I couldn't use the pair to watch films as there was a very noticeable delay between picture and sound. The Wi-fi version of the Charge 5 doesn't suffer from these two problems at all. Once set up in the app, all of my devices see them as one speaker (I've called it JBL Stereo) and can connect to them by Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The sound quality is even better than the original Charge 5 when using Wi-fi mode and they represent excellent value for money at the current price (virtually the same as the original Charge 5). The power and authority that comes across in the music is excellent for speakers of this size, type and price. The big advantage of using Wi-Fi to send music to a speaker from your phone is that you can use the phone for anything else at the same time without stopping the music. This isn't possible with Bluetooth speakers, and the volume is still directly controlled from the phone. There are a couple of downsides. Firstly, the battery life in stereo mode is much worse than the original Charge 5. Apparently battery in the Wi-Fi model is much larger to deal with the extra power drain, but it doesn't seem to have worked AND the larger battery takes a long time to charge, only pulling 8-9w from even the fastest charge I have used it with. Secondly, there is a JBL Charge Wi-Fi SE model in the USA which adds Auracast meaning that it will be compatible with all of JBLs newer speakers (but not the older ones). That is truly the sweet spot in the range. These downsides are not enough to reduce this to a four star product for me, but it might be worth waiting to see if the SE model is released here before buying this one.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is it worth upgrading from Charge 5 to the Charge 5 wifi if so whats the differences?.**
A: Talking about customer experience I think it only worth if you are looking for a Bluetooth speaker that also allow you to connect trough you WiFi router without using only Bluetooth, this give you the advantage to move around the house (where have wifi signal) listening to you favorite music or also, you can just streaming you music from you computer or any device that don’t have Bluetooth it increase the number of devices that you can connect to JBL Charger 5 WiFi

**Q: How loud is it? Decibels, watts?**
A: A part of watts/decibels that you can check on manual specifications… that speaker is loud enough and don’t loss quality, I normally use on 60% of power to avoid neighbors problems, for a small speaker I think is a good choice compared to others speakers and it also have around 1 day life battery

**Q: Does this have partyboost?**
A: Unfortunately Not

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Limited functionality in the JBL App
*by S***N on 31 May 2024*

... but I don't care because it sounds brilliant. The JBL app is very limited in what it does (e.g. the equalizer is really simplistic and hard to fine adjust) and doesn't seem very compatible with Alexa in the UK. It took ages to connect the speaker to Alexa as every time I used the app to sign in it went to Amazon in the USA. Eventually I logged into Amazon on my browser before using the app and a connection was made. Note there is no microphone included with this speaker, so Alexa can only use it as a speaker. The JBL is better to listen to than a Sonos Roam which is probably the most direct competitor in terms of brand reputation, price and WiFi connectivity. WiFi connection was easy and is solid, as is Chromecast and Bluetooth. No problems at all in these areas. Spotify works as it should with the JBL. So does Amazon Music, a refreshing improvement over my other portable WiFi speaker. Although a bit bulky and heavy, this is the portable WiFi speaker I wish I had found first, saving me some frustration, despite the extra bulk and lack of a microphone.
