This book should be read by adults and children a like as it has a message running through it about what we are doing to our planet. I think the way it is written is very clever; from the point of view of a child and the animals he rescues. It is extremely poinient and I felt myself caring for the animals and feeling quite emotional when any were lost. I would say this is a book that is aimed at upper ks2 to read independently or younger if being read to. I enjoyed this slightly more than the first book as the place was quicker. I've started book three already I'm engaged.
