Part of Penguin's beautiful hardback Clothbound Classics series, designed by the award-winning Coralie Bickford-Smith, these delectable and collectible editions are bound in high-quality colourful, tactile cloth with foil stamped into the design. When this volume of Shakespeare's poems first appeared in 1609, he had already written most of the great plays that made him famous. The 154 sonnets - all but two of which are addressed to a beautiful young man or a treacherous 'dark lady' - contain some of the most exquisite and haunting poetry ever written, and deal with eternal subjects such as love and infidelity, memory and mortality, and the destruction wreaked by Time. Also included is A Lover's Complaint , originally published with the sonnets, in which a young woman is overheard lamenting her betrayal by a heartless seducer. Review: Good value - Lovely looking book. Good value. Review: Stunning. - To start, for the price you'll be hard pushed to find an equally pleasing copy of Shakespeare's Sonnets. Penguin has done an excellent job on it's 'Clothbound Classics' series, but this particular book stands out among them. The cover art is excellent, a classic floral design on a deep red background. Another positive aspect of this book is that it makes a wonderful gift to an avid reader as a vegetarian doesn't want to own leather-bound books (My significant other for example). This book looks brilliant when on a bookshelf alongside others of the series, (Wuthering Heights, Great Expectation, Emma etc etc) as they all share similar cover art. The only bad thing I have to say about this series of books, isn't technically a fault of their own. As with most books they have a sticker on the back cover with a bar code and retail price attached, but due to the delicate nature of the artwork on the covers, if you aren't very careful when removing this sticker, you can actually peel small pieces of the design off of the book. Despite this small issue I would still highly recommend this product and others in the series to anybody who wants affordable yet visually pleasing copies of the classics! 9.8/10

Wonderfully Bound Book of Sonnets
It is nice to have a collection of Shakespear sonnets to read whenever I feel the urge. The binding is really nice and has its own protective sleeve.

Beautiful but cover wears away
The book has a beautiful cover and is in good quality, but the cover does come a bit worn off (which is normal with clothbounds, it happens sooner or later) so just expect that.

A beautiful edition.
I purchased this edition for a close friend who recently read Sonnet 116 at my wedding, and he absolutely loves it. I am even tempted to buy a copy for myself, as the cover is stunning and the price is impressive. A fitting volume for a remarkable body of work.

my only disappointment is i expected the cover to be completely cloth bound, the red section is where as the orange designs are in a plastic material, it takes away the luxury of the book on a visual level. Other than that lovely edition and it has rightfully taken its spot on my bookshelf.

Great buy
Saw these books in a book shop in Paris and took a gamble to look for them on Amazon. Happy that I found them, at a good price as well. Great book with lovely material hard cover.

Beautiful book
Beautiful clothbound book. The cover did have minor imperfections, though I only noticed them because I'd been looking. However, the bar code sticker on the back did leave residue, which darkened the spot. Aside from that, the font is decently sized and legible. It's in its original english (thou, thy, thine, and so on), too. Small enough to carry. The spine is a bit stiff, you might have to press the book open. It emotionally hurt me to do that, but it's not a deal-breaker, so it stays at 5 five stars.

Magnifique
Magnifique édition mais une étoile en moins car une étiquette est mise derrière et si on la décolle les décors oranges viennent avec.
