Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens, 4th Edition: Breed Selection, Facilities, Feeding, Health Care, Managing Layers & Meat Birds

This is a great book if you are interested in raising chickens. This book is definitely a true “how to” book and not just a book spitting out facts. I love how the book has plenty of visuals and has plenty of color. It’s a fun and informative book to read. This book definitely well prepares you for chickens. I hope this review helps :)

This book is very informative and covers a wide range of topics. I found it to be an excellent resource about raising chickens.

Very easy to read and follow. Covers a wide variety of Chicken topics and problems with different methods and resources to use. I call it my "chicken bible." There is so much information in this book from what to expect with different illnesses to different methods for culling. Very informational.

Storey's guides to fowl are well worth the investment if your planning to keep birds and their Chicken guide is no exception. Sooner or later your going need a guide whether its basic good house keeping and improving care, chicks or when one gets ill. A got to book is needed and Raising Chickens is an excellent guide. I have acquired several guides to raising chicken over the years, but this is the one I find most comprehensive. There will always be regional difference between birds available, managing climate and laws, but this will see you through the most of it.

This is a must read for residential rookie chicken owners. Everything you need or may want to know about getting started and raising a healthy flock is in the book—and perhaps too much in some cases. Eighteen months later we still have our original chickens, they’re healthy and great layers. We owe a bit to this book.

I had one of the first editions of this book years ago when it was first published. I loved it then for raising chickens, so when I heard that it had been updated and released again I had to get it. You can't always trust internet sources for sound advice on raising any plant or animal, a good, solid reference book is always a better choice. This one is so thorough. It's not a book you just sit down and read (for most people). Great advice, easy to understand.

This book was very helpful. I quite frankly can’t think of a topic. It didn’t cover in good detail. I am very pleased with it. I think that the big spiral on the sides which prevents pages from tearing and ripping in the margins is very useful. If you’ve got chickens, you better have this book on your shelf. All you need to do is have an answer one question and it could save you a lot of money.

I just became a first-time chicken owner with the acquisition of 4 little chicks, ranging from 3-6 days old, and this book has been immensely helpful and comprehensive for alleviating any anxiety about their care. Three weeks in, I’ve already consulted it numerous times, as the chicks grow and develop. It’s easy to read and follow, with an excellent contents page and index for seeking specific information. I’m sure it will become a well-thumbed Bible over years to come!

Bought for a present for a family member so not sure about the content (all the reviews online said this this the author to choose though) but very impressed with the quality, even though it was listed as used the book doesn’t even look like it’s been opened!

Bought based on reviews, the book isn't well written, several repetitive sections and not very detailed. I was ready to buy the entire series, I won't now.

It explains things in a way that gives the reader easy steps to follow to raise chickens. Very informative.
