Must have tool if you need to cut high branches.
This worked better than I hoped. People here saying nothing more than a couple inches are wrong. Beside branches that cut like butter, I cut 12 inches through hard oak that was standing upright (not a branch), and made it through with limited profanity. You can basically cut any wood with this. In the absence of a motorized chain saw, this is the way to go. The handles aren't helpful (flimsy), the weight bags weren't helpful to me. I used heavy washers to sling the rope. The gloves are alright. The case is too small to make the tool fit inside again. The chain that you can attach to ropes (included) is awesome and can easily save thousands compared to renting a bucket truck.

This kit WORKS!
High quality product comprised of high quality parts. I was skeptical of its ability to perform but had the first limb on the ground within minutes of unpacking. Very easy to use once it is over the limb to be cut. The frustrating part is throwing a line over the limb to be cut to hoist the rope chainsaw, which is an acquired skill. The chain is sharp, build quality is excellent and the kit is very compact and contained within a very nice zippered semi-hard case. The line, chainsaw, carabiners, gloves, and handles are all of high quality. This kit WORKS.

Works well. Safer than using ladder
Update (changing the rating to 4 stars) - The replacement rope saw arrived without any issues. Used it to 3 branches at around 25 ft. Worked well, and it was much safer than using a tall ladder. The reason for 4 stars - it took many throws to get to the right branch, and then a few times the saw got stuck in the branch, that needed couple of good yanks. _______ Ordered new rope saw, and received USED one today. The chain is broken in 2 pieces with small wood chips stuck in it. Disappointed. Requested replacement.

Extremely usefull and effective.
Fabulous and effective. I had 3 large overhanging limbs (about 24 inches in diameter) about 25 ft plus above the ground. It is early spring (before they refilled with moisture). I improvised a bit with a rubber hammer as the ‘toss lead’ and tossed the mallot with a thin nylon string as a feed line, and then towed the heavy product rope over the limbs. (at 76 tossing a rubber mallot 30 feet is still doable :-). And even at my age, was able to saw the limbs off with about 15 to 20 cycles. I was amazed at the ability to cut the limbs. Be very very careful of the potential fall lines and be well clear. The weight and size of limbs are deceiving when they are ‘swaying’ 25 feet above the grond. But it saved me calling a tree service and saved them from growing over power lines and/or the house. Product is extremely usefull for limbs that are largely horizontal and about to hang over sensitive structures. Highly recommend the product, and would buy it again (although it will probably never wear out).

No job to big
I had a large Hickory tree that was growing sideways and it was leaning over my pole barn. I had three professionals refuse to touch it because they were worried that the tree would kick out if cut and hurt them. Even cutting the top piece by piece was dangerous because the main tree would jump up as it got lighter. The roots were starting to pull out of the ground and I needed to do something, so I bought this kit and cut the tree down. I threw a string over the trunk about 20 feet in the air, pulled the cutting chain into place, and with the help of my son, pulled back and forth until the tree fell. It was hard to pull the chain back and forth, but the saw chain cut at an amazing rate. I used my own rope and we stood back from the tree, holding the ends at a 90 degree angle from each other. At the point we were cutting, the truck was 20 inches in diameter. The plastic handles bent, so I stuck a wood dowel in the hole and it worked fine. Instead of sending thousands of dollars, i used this kit and it worked great. Thanks, Pat

Chain and rope is all you need
Did a lot of cutting years back with a similar product. Got it out of storage a few weeks ago and used it with my son for the day and we determined it could use a sharpening. The service center I brought it to couldn’t sharpen a double sided saw so I figure it was worth buying a new one. I bought the whole kit as it was just $10-$15 more than chainsaw only. The case is nice! I’m not sure how to go about using the sharpener. Do I hold the chain in a vice grip and assist every couple inches until finished. Seems like a huge waste of time. Buy a new one if someone can’t sharpen it for me for $4. The handles are rather pointless as each branch you cut will require them to be at a different position. Even while working on a single branch, if it’s thick you may want to adjust the distance or angle of your stance for comfort and effectiveness thereby needing the position of the handles changed. Others wrote that they were cheap and broke on first use. I don’t even bother with them. Pointless. I suppose for shipping cost this kits come with two big bags to fill on your own. They seem awkwardly sized to throw far. I used my 10oz throw weight from my old chain. Can’t imagine wanting to use those bags over it. Finally, probably the most significant thing I found with this kit, the rope is a good quality that I’ve used for several branches before showing signs of wear. But. I found out quickly that for higher branches, it’s too heavy. I’ve been using a lighter weight rope to through as I can’t get much more distance and then tying the included rope up with it. Also. They lie when they say it won’t get stuck! Lol. It’s the nature of the project. The instructions say to take breaks but that’s dangerous business. Often when you get into a rhythm of cutting and then stop for whatever reason, your inviting a jam. Its usually when your getting to the end of a cut because at that point very little of the chain saw is doing any work. You’ve got just a small portion of it wrapped around what’s left to cut so it binds up. Nature of the beast. Can be a real pain to get things tossed just where you need the chain places and deal with the jams, but I can’t afford a professional.

Absolutely works!
Works extremely well. Super quick cut. Use short pull strokes, two people(with my wife of extremely limited mechanical ability), spread apart as far as possible, and cut as perpendicular to the branch as possible. Will save you lots of money. Great quality as far as I am concerned.

Good quality product, however it has gotten caught ever time I have used it. Making it useless. Yet to successfully cut a branch down

saved me some money taking down a big opverhead limb. Ropes could be longer, but did the job I asked it to do easily.

Works well able to finally get a few of those overhanging branches down without having to work off ladders , cut through with ease and is better if you have another person pulling the other end of the rope you can stand further away.

Works great. Gloves are awesome. It sometimes will jam but you just have to work it out. Highly recommend.
