I bought it because it's easy to clean **Q: Will the seeds come out during heavy rain?** A: Not with the seed mix I use, which includes small safflower seeds. I've never put niger thistle seed in these. They may be too small. **Q: Will thistle seed fall through the holes in this feeder?** A: The holes in this feeder are quite small, I really don’t think thistle seed will fall through. The birds and even mourning doves love it. **Q: is there a way to mount this onto a metal in-ground pole?** A: This s a hanging bird feeder with mesh-like holes throughout for drainage. Doesn't have option for mounting to pole. Depending on type of pole you could add a wall-mount plant hanger to your pole for use with this feeder.
