Apple Brand Leather Cleaner & Conditioner Kit - for Use On Leather Purses, Handbags, Shoes, Boots & Accessories - Safe On Colored and Natural Leather

Apple Brand's leather care line is still my favorite, after all these years, so I thought I should take a moment and post a review for their conditioner and cleaner kit. I should say that both products are available individually and you will probably find that you use them at different rates and require more of the conditioner than the cleaner, and that is actually very good news, for your leather. First recommended to me by a Franklin Covey representative, far enough in my past to make me feel very old, I have been using this product for almost as many years as Franklin planners. To date, having tried about ten or so of the various cleaners and conditioners out there, I have found that, for basic cleaning, light touch ups and conditioning, the Apple Conditioner, that's right Conditioner, actually works better than anything. For heavier soils, I use their cleaner and occasionally another (for the heaviest, worst, most horrific stains, where the item is partly ruined and can't be fully restored), but, again, this conditioner works wonders as the first line cleaning agent for almost all applications. When buffed gently, with a soft cloth, it cleans. When wiped away and reapplied, buffing gently again, it moisturizes and sinks in. I often leave a thin layer for a half hour or so on difficult leathers that require too much moisture for just one treatment. Of course, this works wonders on my Franklin planner and it has never, ever, harmed anything I've treated with it. For the tougher, but not toughest, stains, the cleaner will gently remove dirt and grime while leaving the leather in tact and undamaged. However, it will not remove tough pen stains or anything that is too deeply embedded in the leather, both types of cleaning that would require stronger chemicals and enough buffing to damage the leather and both types of cleaning that Apple Brand actively seeks to avoid. Their philosophy is to preserve and restore, never to damage, and that is the kind of cleaning this can help you achieve. I have found that the conditioner is useful for cleaning in more applications that specified on the label. For lamb leather, a soft, unfinished leather, I can never get anything to gently clean away bits of discoloration without harming the leather, and so, I go off label and use a tiny amount of the Conditioner, and only the conditioner, buffing gently and then wiping away after about ten seconds, on a lamb handbag from about fifteen years ago. I have found that careful application of this product keeps my favorite old bag as clean and supple as it can be, given how heavily I've used it, without ruining the leather. If you need to try this product for an unfinished leather, keep in mind that this product is specifically labeled as NOT to be used on unfinished leathers and remember to try it on a hidden and small spot, to buff gently but quickly and to wipe away after about ten seconds. It will look dark and damaged for a few minutes and then, after about ten, it will have dried to how the leather of your item will look if you treat with this conditioning product, again, not the cleaner. I'ved used this product on my nappa and calfskin leather handbags, designer bags, etc. It works very well. I don't like the smell of it but it doesn't linger. It doesn't darken light leather and it dries fast.

I've only used this one time to clean and condition my tieks collection. The cleaner worked really well and was gentle and easy to use. The conditioner seemed to take more than I would have thought but I think that might be part of the learning curve. I will say my shoes did look and feel really nice after they dried

I bought this to clean and protect my mid-range leather handbags. I had one that had some staining. The cleaner took some of it out, but I don't know what the staining is from, it looks almost like color transfer from something dark which any cleaner is likely to not remove well. The cleaner did a great job on the handles of my bag, took quite a bit of grime off that I didn't know was even there. The bags I used this one are brightly colored, and it did not take the color off nor did it cause any darkening or discoloration. I tested first on the bottom to be sure. The conditioner soaks in well and once buffed away, just leaves the leather feeling a little softer. I am hoping the conditioner helps prevent peeling of the bag's handles. I treated it before storing it. Again, no changes to the bag's coloring from using it. Neither item has a strong scent, it's mild and not too offensive, and doesn't really linger. The consistency of both is not super runny but enough to spread and work with easily. I am happy with it and my use of it with my handbags.

I am not sure if I received a bad batch, but the leather conditioner I received was very watery. The seal was also partially lifted so I am wondering if it was used, filled to the top with water and returned? All of my other conditioners have been the consistency of lotion. Usually really love this product.

Worked great on my purses! The cleaner got some needed scruffs off and a small amount of conditioner went a long way and dried relatively quickly and left the bag looking like new. The cloth that comes in the kit is a bit flimsy and cheap, but can easily swap and use a hand towel instead.
