Absolute game changer!
This product is amazing. It made my life so much easier. I bought this to use as a syphon for my homemade wine making operation. The filter fits into a standard carboy opening. I inserted it into the carboy, squeezed the pump part twice and away it went. Did its job perfectly. The filter prevented any sediment being sucked up during the racking process and to my surprise it got every drop of wine out of the jug even when the liquid level dropped below the top of the filter. It is super easy to clean, I just filled a bucket with sanitizer and water and went through the same process. Inserted filer, pumped, and let the water flow through the syphon until it was clean. For this price and the amount of trouble it saves you I cannot recommend it enough. Wish I had found it sooner

Makes racking homemade wine much easier
This siphon works great for such an inexpensive product. The hand pump is great. No need to inhale wine to start the siphoning process. My only concern is that it takes a while for the inside of the tubing to dry after cleaning/rinsing. I hope it doesn't start growing stuff inside. I guess I'll throw it away and buy another once it starts turning color.

When the power goes out you will need a manual version. it works as well as this version ever did.

Too difficult to clean - did not work for my task
The first issue is that the hose is wrapped in a fairly tight coil when packed so that when unpacked, it remembers being curled. That makes it not want to go to the bottom of the liquid. I fixed that by fashioning a holder out of a sterilized coat hanger. The rigidity of the coat hanger wire allowed me to place the strainer where it needed to be. Unfortunately, what I was trying to filter had way too many particulates to be effective. The strainer clogged right away. I ended up making my own strainer out of plastic screening from fruit bags I purchased years ago. I think it has a mesh size of about 1/16 inch or so, which allowed larger particles than this strainer allows through to pass. Lesson learned: I should have put my must in a fruit bag so I could more easily squeeze out the juice like I did last time. The real problem, though, is that the strainer cannot be disassembled, unless I missed something (there were no instructions). That means particles can get into the strainer and then are nearly impossible to clean out. I spent a good 20 minutes or so using a brush that came with my juicer and a toothbrush to clean the filter. Then I used my kitchen hand sprayer to spray into the filter from all angles with the opening held downward in order to empty out the particulates. One final thing. Although the strainer is easily removed from the hose, the pump part seems to be glued to the hose. For reasons I won't get into here, I needed to separate the hose from the pump. I resorted to cutting the hose. Now what if I want to use the pump again? I'd have to figure out some way of splicing it back in. I think I'll just use my vacuum pump instead.

This is Not the Syphon You’re Looking For
I recently made a new batch of alcohol and needed a syphon for transferring some fermented liquid into another jar for testing, and I picked this one. The propylene syphon seemed promising at first. It’s a manageable length for countertop work, which was convenient, and it comes with two unique end pieces: a small filter chamber to block solid particles and a manual pump for transferring the liquid. It arrived in a lip lock bag, which felt a bit strange for packaging. The filter chamber has a fine mesh, which was actually too fine for what I needed. It ended up catching more than I wanted, but I could detach it easily, so that wasn’t a huge issue. Cleaning the mesh chamber wasn’t easy though. You might find the mesh works better for your setup, depending on what you’re filtering. The real problem was the manual pump. It was way too rigid to use comfortably, nothing like the smooth action shown in the seller’s pictures. I managed to get it working after some effort, but it eventually cracked, making it completely useless. Luckily, it’s detachable, so I could still use the hose. In the end, I just used the plain hose without either attachment, which was disappointing since the whole point was to use the filter and pump. The syphon didn’t meet my needs because of the overly fine mesh and the unreliable pump. Honestly, the pump feels like it wouldn’t work well for anyone. I’d say be cautious if you’re considering this one, it might not be worth the hassle.

Works great for the price.
Siphon works just as expected for home brew beer. It does siphon a bit slow because of the size of the tubing (took about 15 min to transfer 5 gallons), but this actually works out great because it doesn't stir up the trub on the bottom of the carboy. Between that and the filter, it transferred very clear beer as desired.
