This offbeat picture book from Neil Gaiman was described as "a bittersweet, guffaw-out-loud story from the most distinctive partnership in picture books today" by the Guardian . What if you wanted your best friend's two goldfish so much that you'd swap anything for them, even your father? What if your mother came home and found out what you'd done? The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish is a wry adventure and was the first book for younger readers from the acclaimed author and illustrator of the New York Times bestsellers The Wolves in the Walls and Coraline. Chosen as one of Newsweek magazine's best children's books of the year, The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish is the sort of picture book that works for readers of all ages. If the dad in your life is the sort who enjoys a laugh, especially one at his own expense, he will enjoy The Day I Sawpped My Dad for Two Goldfish "I'll swap you my dad," I said. "Oh-oh," said my little sister. Review: Very fun! - This book and The Wolves In The Walls are a great pair of silly picture books. The artwork is a bit different and unique. The story is clever and silly. The characters are relatable. Good laughs for kids! Review: A Neil Gaiman classic for kids - This book is hilarious, and a definite inducement for my reading students....especially for boys who have slightly annoying younger sisters.

Great book, not great idea
Guys... my husband is now in a plastic bag of water and my goldfish are in my bed. Don't give this to your kids if they don't know how to separate fact from fiction. My fish are flopping around and my husband's whining. Otherwise, loved it.

Neil’s second best picture book (but it hasn’t aged well…)
Amazing book, though now that we are a bit more aware of such things, when I’m reading it to My students I change the fat phobic line to something else (my secret, but it works and isn’t offensive ). Not sure what to do with the part where the kid ties up And puts a gag in his little Sisters mouth. That’s definitely problematic.

RETELLING OF OLD FOLK TALE
This is a retelling of a very ancient folktale from Africa, I believe. Retold very ably by Neil Gaiman. As the title says, a boy swaps his father for 2 goldfish. He has his reasons, but his mother is upset and insists he get his father back. But that is not so easy. A tale of a quest, and a struggle, growth and learning. Told with great humor and entertainment, and a few variations from the original. You will love this one.

My niece's favorite book
I'm a big Neil Gaiman fan, but I had never read any of his children's books until I bought this one for my 19-month-old niece. It's very good writing (what else would you expect from Neil?) and the illustrations are unique and very striking. This is now my niece's favorite book, and she has a ton of them.

Such a fun read
My 8 year old has loved this book for a couple of years. I purchased the hard copy to ensure he can read it over & over on its own before he no longer enjoys doing so. This is definitely just a fun read as he reads at a 5th grade level, but nothing beats Neil Gaiman having a boy’s dad traded around town for fish & toys.

Perfect, Mr. Gaiman!
It's so simple and it's so good! I found it funny, this book took me back to my childhood, where I used to swap all of my stuff with my friends.
