This is the 2nd UV-5R I’ve bought, this time for my brother. We use it whilst driving which is a complete different experience, the range goes for about 4-5 miles on the motorway and about 2-3 miles in the city. The dual band is very useful when we are in convoy with others and the battery lasts up to 2 days of constant use. Sound quality is pretty good and it’s really easy to use. Would recommend buying an external wired speaker mic for when driving. Would definitely recommend!

Surprisingly well built little unit for the price. Menus aren't that intuitive but otherwise didn't have much of an issue setting this set up as needed. My only gripe is that I don't think it's actually putting out 8w. I've checked it via a Surecom SW-102 and it's only showing ~6w on 2m and 70cm. For the money paid however I can live with this.

I only purchased this for the charger as I needed it on same day delivery and all the chargers where next day. I was a little skeptical about the 8W power output which is why I am giving only 1 star, it is a standard 5W output not 8W as described. It all works and functions as a normal UV5R

Only thing that lets this down is the lack of direct USB charging. You need the base station so charging on the move is difficult.

This is a great device which simply works out of the box without charging. Little tricky user interface, but anyone who's had a radio before, would know how to use it. - The accompanying user manual is not very good... but that's what you paid for. - The only really bad thing is that all these radios need a special programming cable, before it's really useful. Make sure to get a cable before you buy this! You need it to quickly setup you channel list and have a far better experience with the device.
