Best Super-Automatic Available
My previous super-automatic espresso machine was a Saeco Xelsis EVO, purchased in 2013. After 71,988 uses, it developed an irreparable leak, and I was unable to locate a repair shop in the United States. This new machine has a similar design, and in fact, the brew group, water tank, and drip tray are identical. I believe, aside from the front panel and electronics, the machines are essentially the same. If this machine provides the same longevity as my previous one, I would be delighted. It produces an exceptional espresso, and the other beverages are just as good as those from Starbucks. In addition to excellent coffee, I anticipate saving $50 per week. The machine should pay for itself in about 38 weeks. It's the best machine on the market for the price, a conclusion I reached after five weeks of research looking at machines from multiple manufacturers. This is a quality build from start to finish.

DO NOT BUY. Warranty is a total SCAM, when this breaks you will spend >$500 to get minor fix
DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. The device worked for three months and then stopped producing steam. That is when I discovered the SCAM warranty. Gaggia outsources the warrant to "whole lot of latte". I live in SF and the company has ZERO technicians to service machines here. So the warranty service company did the following - told to do deep cleaning cycles (which i did) then told me to PAY $250 to send it back to them, then pre-pay for the return. I sent it in then they had the nerve to say that the device was fine and just needed a cleaning. This is not true. They wanted to charge me hundreds of dollars more for replacing compnonents on a brand new machine. They wanted to charge me more than $500m for a brand new product that is under warranty! To boot, I still don't have the machine. I have been without it for 3 months. I bought it less than 6 months ago. The Warranty is a total joke. You spend $2000 on this product and do not realize that it will cost you so much to seek repairs and the warranty is useless. I want my money back. I will fight this one and report back.

Great tasting espresso drinks, easy to use and clean
Amazing tasting espresso drinks, with a simple press of button. We really love cafe au lat, melange, cortado and cappuccinos in addition to basic brewed coffee. The automatic milk system produces really high quality milk froth for an automatic system. The milk system is also very easy to clean. We take it apart once a week for cleaning which takes less than a couple minutes. In between use, we just keep it in the fridge. One concern I had before buying, based on reviews, was that the milk is not hot enough. I think it’s perfectly fine and comes out at a temperature that can be enjoyed immediately!

Great machine
Fantastic machine and a "daily driver" for a family of four. After nearly a year of full-time use, this machine is worth the price. There is minor maintenance that is require every few months, depending on your usage, where you have to remove the PERCOLATOR DE=35,8 ELFO from the BLACK COUNTER PISTON BREW UNIT 8GR.P124 to washout any potential coffee grounds that have caused reduced flow. Took me maybe 10 minutes to figure out at first, but now I can have the brew group parts disassembled and back in the machine operating in a couple minutes and the machines flow as good as it came out the box.

WARRANTY REPAIR IS COSTLY
This machine makes very good coffee for about 9 months. If your machine breaks down within the warranty period, Gaggia will charge you $57.00 to send you the shipping materials so that you can ship your machine to New York for repair. You also have to pay the shipping cost of this 40 lb beast both ways which is going to cost several hundred dollars for fees and insurance. NOTE: Breville covers all costs during the warranty period as it should be. If you are deciding between Breville and Gaggia, I’d go with Breville. Breville’s customer service and warranty are much better! UPDATE: Whole Latte Love sold this machine through Amazon and also reapairs them. The total cost to repair this machine under warranty was $250.00 for shipping, insurance and packing materials. The worst part is that I received it back after one month and they kept the power cord! Buyer Beware orders from Whole Latte Love and Gaggia.

Top of the line taste and operation - but messy and requires too much intervention
I’ve had this machine for a few months now ($1,800 USD) as an upgrade to my Breville Barista Express ($600). Here are my thoughts on pros and cons, and the overall verdict. <<<PROS>>> Taste: makes the best-tasting shot of espresso of any machine I’ve owned and it’s not even close. It actually tastes like pure espresso, rather than coffee-flavored water, or the imitation that cheaper machines make. Variety: pre-set drinks include espresso, flat white, americano, basic coffee, steamed milk (from carafe or wand) and so much more. Customizability: one can change the drink, the ratio and texture of milk/cream to coffee and water, grind, temperature, and much more. If you can get your drink dialed in, the sky is the limit for taste and quality. I don’t think I’ve gotten my drink dialed in (americano with steamed heavy cream) after months of ownership, but let’s say that’s a me-problem. Ease of Use: because it’s touch-screen with many options, and because you can save highly-customized favorites, this machine is a cinch to replicate your favorite coffee beverage each morning. Quiet: though not quiet per se (like a Mr. Coffee-type of appliance), this is quieter than my Breville which would wake up family members while grinding and extracting. Milk Carafe: this clever device can be filled with milk or cream, and kept chilled in the refrigerator between uses. Haven’t seen anything like this before but it’s great. <<<CONS>>> Expensive: at $1,800 for the less-desirable color, this is nearly as expensive as it gets for home coffee appliances, so my expectations are high. Complex Set-Up: while it’s understandable given the offerings of this machine, reading the manual made it feel like I was building a rocket. Gets easier with time, but the setup felt overwhelming to me even if it was just my exaggerated perception. Quality Control: first unit I bought was nonfunctional as the grinder didn’t work properly. They replaced it, but it was 2-3 weeks before I got a replacement, and shipping the old unit back was not easy. Intensive Maintenance: setting aside normal operation (cleaning milk carafe, emptying drip and coffee puck trays), you are recommended to undertake several additional cleaning/maintenance procedures every few weeks. But these require several additional items: milk circuit cleaning powder, coffee cleaning tablets, descaler solution, water filters, etc. It adds up both in terms of time and money. Messy: this thing is the messiest coffeemaker I’ve owned: operation of the machine as well as its automatic cleaning procedures splash coffee-water all over the stainless cup pedestal, the pedestal reservoir gets smeared with milk and needs thorough washing, stray espresso grounds empty under the machine during grinding, and waterdrops splash and drip over the countertop. It would make a mess anyway, but the constant interventions this machine requires (refilling water, emptying drip tray and pedestal reservoir and coffee pucks) spread the mess often. Water & Drip Reservoirs: the coffee bean reservoir and coffee puck bin are wonderfully large and last a long time between interventions, but for some reason the water reservoir is comically small and must be refilled every couple of days. Additionally, the drip tray must be emptied every 1-2 days, even when only making 1-2 cups of coffee per day. Not Dishwasher-Safe: few if any parts are recommended for dishwasher, so most if not all cleaning must be done by hand. Milk Foam: minimum quantity is 2oz, which is far more than I’d like in my drinks. Why not 0.5oz or 1.0oz? When I make an Americano with steamed milk, I have to pour half of it to back off the milkiness of the 2.0oz minimum milk pour. Size & Style: this is a big machine and occupies tons of countertop space. And, this is subjective, but the styling IMO leaves a lot to be desired for a high-end Italian appliance. <<<VERDICT>>> While this machine is as good as it gets on taste, customizability and ease of use, it is so messy and requires so much intervention between cleaning and refilling and emptying, that it’s simply not worth the huge $1800 price tag. If I could do it again, I probably would have gone with a higher-end Breville or similar.

Very easy to use and makes a great cup of coffee
Works very well as an automatic Espresso Machine with a large variety of coffee's you can make. Easy to program, use and the favorite setting allows you to push one button and get the exact beverage you prefer. For such a beautiful machine at this price point the machine prompts you to add water and clean too often. At $2000 you only get about five large cups of Cappuccino before being prompted to add water and empty coffee grinds. I would have expected more for a $2000 unit. Overall I like the machine and would purchase again. Let's see how long it lasts before needing repair. My last machine lasted about a year. The unit is not exactly small and does take up a good amount of counter space. So cleaning takes some work to move the machine around to add water and clean. It's pretty heavy and my wife can't move it around. Coffee tastes great which makes it worth the purchase.

Superautomatics are great, This one is super. I hope you have a fine day.
I like espresso, I don't like all the time, effort and thought it takes to have one, two, or three when I have things to do. This was a upppppgrade from the bottom end (which still was a super machine) Phillips/Saeco superautomatic I used for a decade. I don't like Keurig/Nespress as I hate cooking in plastic and the plastic waste. Coffee grounds go in the garden, yard, wherever they just fall apart. I wanted the steam wand just on general principles because steam is handy for a lot of things and for the foamer to be easy to use/clean. This unit does it. Milk container lightly self cleans and goes right in the fridge, once or twice a week it gets a "deep clean" (add citric acid, fill with water, press a button) and dry. Only problem I had was not clicking the drain pan correctly the first two days I had it, which led to it draining out several times over two days before I figured it out. Since then (4 months now) no problems. For me it was really expensive, but functionally it matched what I wanted (steam wand, easy clean/use foam unit), and exceeded my requirements in a number of areas I didn't even know I would appreciate. I noted some complaints (in reviews) about the foam not being warm enough but I rarely drink those types of drinks and that's what I got the steam wand for so warm it up. I was attentive to that the first few times people came over but I've had no complaints, not to mention my crowd is currently enjoying the cold, aerosol creamer of late,so it's already cold. Espresso, Americano's, coffee, etc on demand is awesome. The machine looks great and guests love having the selection. They also enjoy the touchscreen selection which allows them to tune the drink even as it's being generated. Superautomatics are great, This one is super. I hope you have a fine day.
