Practical Advice from a Former SEAL -- not just motivational tough-guy fluff!
Let's face it: "mental toughness" is a million dollar buzzword in the billion dollar coaching, self-help and personal development space these days. Almost everytime someone comes out saying they understand the "key" to this overused and misunderstood concept, however, it's really difficult for the perceptive person not to roll their eyes. That's what I like so much about Chad's approach. Unlike other former SEALs (think Jocko and Goggins for instance), Chad's shtick isn't to tell you that every single traumatizing hardship you might face in life is "good" or useful to make you stronger. He's not here to tell you to run an ultramarathon on a stress fractured leg and ruin training for the next 3 months for yourself -- nor would he do that himself just to set a high example, while telling you to do as he says, but not as he does. What he does explain, however, is how to go about taking an "L" and moving forward with grace and dignity -- where most people would otherwise get discouraged, fall off, and fall short of their potential. I think this is especially useful in terms of what sort of expectations we put on our young athletes. Anyways, if you're a coach of young athletes, a parent, or a young athlete yourself, give this book a read! I'm 100% sure you'll take something useful away.

Great information for young athletes and applicable for life at any age!
Really enjoyed the positivity in this book and the "anyone can do it" attitude of the author as long as they work really hard at whatever it is they desire. It's remarkable that he was a 135 pound young man that had never been in the ocean and still succeeded at reaching an elite level in the military. I also love that it lays out the steps to succeed and some exercises and techniques to practice to build mental toughness. I wish I'd had this to share with my children when they were younger but plan to use it in my day to day life and business approach as well.

A Great Read with Many Practical Ideas
This book takes many known and some new ideas for achieving success in athletics. The ideas are incorporated into the book as logical stepping stones to help athletes achieve and maintain success. Important to note: The book mainly focuses on the athlete, but can be applied to all areas of life. This is a very easy read and loaded with information that can be referenced as necessary over a lifetime.

Mental toughness is a phrase you will see again and again and is usually developed through hours and hours of rigorous training. For some, this is a natural process. For others, this is a struggle. An essential ingredient is self confidence and many teenagers struggle with this. Metcalfโs book gives sportspersons a structure where they can analyse their own knowledge and performance towards self improvement. Tools for developing self confidence and mental toughness. Recommended reading.

Great Book for All!
This book was a great read, it was very informative to not only myself, but my son who plays college golf. Chad has really put things into perspective on the pages and really makes you look at things differently. His guide has already helped my son with his game as he implemented the tools recommended and has already seen a change in his mental game of golf. This is a highly recommended read for all!!

It integrates several analogies and examples to help readers young and old understand how to turn failure into fuel by developing a training mindset. This concepts embedded within this book are relevant not only for athletes, but also for everyone else who face challenges and desire to come out a champ. While the book is focused towards athletes, mental toughness goes beyond sports. It translates to success in all areas of life. A strong mind and right attitude is key to success. Author has given excellent examples to explain his points. A good read.

Excellent book
If this knowledge was widely available years ago when I was a young athlete my life would have been very different. Knowledge is Power, this knowledge will empower everyone, parents, youth, support actors et al. If you have a serious athlete, student, (anyone) in your home, all of you need this knowledge.
