Nice book
It is a nice book! I feel it wasn't for me though or at least yet. I'm a beginner and I really like the first part of it with the explanation then it gets into phrases. I'm just not there yet. I think I have an easier time with an interactive app/Spotify to retain things. I had a really easy return.

Somewhat eclectic phrase selection....
This book reminds me of a certain Hungarian phrasebook ("My hovercraft is full of eels!"). It started out well, with a brief overview of hiragana/katakana, and then a list of colors and a variety of sentences in which to use the words for colors. I'm uncertain if I'll ever need the phrase "Can you paint my house blue?" in an emergency travel situation, but it's good to see how the sentences are formed. Then there's a section on numbers, one on dates, and there are some of the expected sections: greetings, small talk, medical, directions. Each section feels like it was generated by AI, with some useful phrases: "Yes", "No", "Can you understand English?", "Can you help me?" mixed in, very randomly, with some somewhat unusual options such as "How much trouble would I get in if I did that?" and, as mentioned by another reviewer, "I am president of the credit union." From there, it continues to get weirder. The section on "Children and Pets" contains the phrases "There's dog poop on the floor. Clean it up." and "You're not wearing that to bed." The "Date Night" section contains "Do you know how to do the salsa?", "Will you marry me?" and "Where is the cutlery?" My favorite is "Money and Shopping": "The carpet in this apartment needs to be pulled up," "There is really good horse racing in the area," and "We should go running with the bulls!" More practically, the phrases aren't alphabetized, or really organized in any way other than by section, so if you're trying to find "Will you dream of me?" ("Date Night") or "Why is YouTube buffering every video I play?" ("Technology") or "Look at the shape of that cloud!" ("Small Talk"), you're going to be doing some page flipping. The book is too big to carry along in one's pocket for emergencies in the field, as it were, so I'm not sure it will be substantially more useful than Google Translate on my phone. On the other hand, it's hilarious, and, if you're just learning the basics and beginning to put words together, it's a good list of some already-put-together sentences so you can do things like slot your own vocabulary into "Is that animal dangerous?" and be able to ask if SO MANY THINGS are dangerous. Three stars for being a good time, and for "We should go running with the bulls!"

It really is easy!
If you are just starting your journey into Japanese, this book is an easy and interesting first step. It gives a view of Japan and their culture. It then teaches you the Kana writting system in digestable bites without overloading you with all sorts grammer and minute detail that can easily take you down the rabbit hole only to get discouraged and give up. Then there is the practile side of the 1,500 usefull phrases organized by topic or catagory. Basically you can't go wrong with this book. It is easy and more fun than any of the other Japanese books I have encountered. Have fun and really learn practicle Japanese QUICKLY! Art V.

I bought so I coukd talk more with my non- English speaking Japanese friends. We all had a good laugh with this. I was able to pronounce words well enough that my friends could figure out what I was saying. It was more for fun though!

I recommend!
This is the second japanese book I get by Lingo Mastery, and Iove it! They give first an explanation on hiragana, katakana and kanji and in all sample phrases (which are nicely divided in themes) you get the tips for right prononciation and even furigana on the kanji. Very nice and easy to go through, I highly recommend!

Handy to have ๐
This book is handy to have ๐ก Japanese language is quite tricky and this book will help you to build and start your first easy conversation on basic topics. There is also some info about hiragana at the start of the book which is something I always need to read again and again as I still canโt remember all hiragana syllables ๐
