## Description

Product Description AC Wireless Hardwire Smoke Alarm, Easy To Expand Coverage Of A Current Interconnected System, Includes Battery Back Up & Ionization Sensor, Not Available To Members In Oregon. This product adds a great value. Product is highly durable and very easy to use. This product is manufactured in China. desertcart.com The Kidde 1279-9999 AC Powered Wireless Smoke Alarm allows for the easy installation of an interconnected smoke alarm system without the high cost and hassle of rewiring your home. The alarms are wirelessly linked so that when one alarm is triggered, all alarms will sound. This alarm can also be placed in a detached workshop or shed and linked into the home's interconnected system.Experts recommend interconnected alarms, because when one sounds, they all sound, providing an early warning against fire by dramatically increasing your ability to hear an alarm anywhere in your home, regardless of where the fire starts. Newer homes are required by code to have interconnected alarms. Wireless technology now enables any home to have an interconnected system. This alarm uses ionization sensing technology. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms. Kidde strongly recommends that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fire that can occur within the home.Choose the Right Wireless Alarms for Your HomeKidde offers two wireless product options: a Battery Powered Smoke Alarm, and an AC Powered Smoke Alarm. These products enable you to customize your system based on your specific needs. Read below to see which Kidde wireless smoke alarms are best for your home.Getting Started with Wireless Interconnect in Three Easy StepsStep 1 - Determine the type of smoke alarms currently installed in your house.1. Battery Powered No wires; runs only on batteries. Most older homes have battery-powered smoke alarms. These alarms have no protruding wires and are battery powered.2. HardwiredRuns on your home's electricity and may have battery backup. Only one alarm sounds when test button is pressed. If your home was built in the last 20 years, you probably have hardwired smoke alarms. If only the alarm that you test sounds, then you do not have an interconnected system.3. InterconnectedRuns on your home's electricity and may have battery backup. All alarms sound when one test button is pressed.Homes built in the last 15 years may have an interconnected smoke alarm system. If all alarms sound when you test, you have an interconnected system. Step 2 - Decide how many alarms you need in your home. The NFPA recommends at least one smoke alarm on every level of the home and in every sleeping area.Step 3 - Based on your home's current alarm set-up, decide which Kidde Wireless alarms to purchase.1. If your home has only battery powered alarms: Purchase enough Kidde Wireless Battery Powered Smoke Alarms (0919-9999) to replace all of your current smoke alarms. You will also have the ability to add Kidde Wireless Battery Powered Alarms in additional rooms for expanded coverage.2. If your home has only hardwired smoke alarms: Purchase enough Kidde Wireless AC Powered Smoke Alarms (1279-9999) to replace all of your current smoke alarms. You will also have the ability to add Kidde Wireless Battery Powered Alarms in additional rooms for expanded coverage.3. If your home has interconnected smoke alarms: Purchase one Kidde Wireless AC Powered Smoke Alarms to replace one current smoke alarm. Kidde Wireless Battery Powered Alarms can then be installed in additional rooms.Interconnectable for Improved SafetyFire and consumer experts recommend interconnected alarms for added protection. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), most Americans feel they are more at risk of being a victim of a tornado than of a house fire. Actually the opposite is true. Fires are more common than any other disaster that strikes a family at home, and can become deadly in minutes. You have on average less than three minutes from the time you hear a smoke alarm to escape a fire. The sooner you hear an alarm, the sooner you can get out safely. Smoke alarms that link together so that when one goes off, they all go off, are called interconnected alarms. These alarms provide more warnings in more places, giving your family more time to escape a house fire. Houses built after 1993 are required by building codes to have interconnected alarms that are wired into their electrical system.Trademarked Hush Feature for ConvenienceBy pressing the Hush button, you can easily and safely silence nuisance alarms caused by non-emergency situations, such as overcooked dinners. This alarm's Smart Hush feature has the capability of temporarily desensitizing the alarm circuit for up to 8 minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm. The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the Test/Hush button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately. The red LED will illuminate for 1.5 seconds every 8 seconds while in hush. This indicates that the alarm is in a temporarily desensitized condition. The smoke alarm will automatically reset after approximately 8 minutes and sound the alarm if particles of combustion are still present. Smart Hush can be used repeatedly until the air has been cleared of the condition causing the alarm. Pushing the Test/Hush button on the alarm will end the hush period.Battery Backup, Indicator LED, and Test FeatureBecause a smoke alarm only helps protect you if it's working, this unit features a red LED that flashes every 10 seconds to indicate that it is operating correctly. For additional peace of mind, the alarm also contains a test/reset button that enables you to periodically test its circuitry and horn. The alarm's battery backup provides continuous protection against smoke and fire hazards, even during power outages. The unit offers a low battery warning that issues a brief chirp every 30 to 40 seconds for at least seven days before losing power, letting you know that it's time to change the battery. This alarm is UL listed, so you can be confident of its quality, and it is backed by a 10-year limited warranty that lasts the life of the alarm.About Kidde: A UTC Fire & Security Brand Renowned for global leadership in fire detection and suppression, Kidde provides solutions ranging from portable fire extinguishers to advanced industrial controls such as flame detection and explosion suppression systems.Kidde is a UTC Fire & Security brand, with a history that's rich with innovations, from the patent of the Chubb Detector Lock in 1818 to the development of the world's first wireless networked smoke detectors in 2004.What's in the BoxOne 1279-9999 smoke alarm with mounting bracket, mounting hardware and pre-stripped quick connect harness, 3-AA Batteries, a 10-year limited warranty and a bilingual user's manual. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); From the Manufacturer There are only minutes to escape a house fire. The sooner you hear the smoke alarm, the sooner you can get out safely. Kidde interconnected Ionization smoke alarms provide early warning against fire by linking together the smoke alarms in your home, dramatically increasing your ability to hear an alarm anywhere, regardless of where the fire starts. The Kidde Wireless Smoke Alarm makes it easy to expand the coverage of a current interconnected system. Simply replace one Interconnected smoke alarm with the Kidde Wireless AC powered alarm. You can then install Kidde Wireless Battery Powered Smoke Alarms in any additional rooms that need extra protection. Install UL listed smoke alarms on every floor of your home, in hallways, inside bedrooms and outside of sleeping areas. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles, associated with fast flaming fires sooner than Photoelectric alarms. Studies show both types will effectively detect either type of fire. For optimal protection, install both smoke alarm technologies in your home. See more

Review: Very happy with this detector. - Soon after my wife and I purchased our first home, we discovered that the smoke detectors the previous owners installed in the upstairs bedrooms and hall were both old, and done incorrectly. I rewired everything, bringing the upstairs smoke detectors up to code. Kidde also makes battery-powered detectors that communicate wirelessly (their battery-powered "RF" units). To expand our network of smoke detectors to the first floor, without having to cut holes in the wall, drill through the floor, and run wire, I purchased and installed an RF-SM-AC detector and installed it in the hallway upstairs. I installed a battery-powered RF unit downstairs in the family room (which is where the fire place is). We can add additional battery-powered RF units as needed and expand our detector network. The RF-SM-AC detector upstairs works well, communicating flawlessly with both the detectors it is hardwired to upstairs, and the wireless detector downstairs. Wireless communication range seems to be adequate for our home (~1700 square feet). Installation was straightforward; no complaints. Be aware that the battery compartment is on the rear, so you'll have to remove the unit to replace the battery. This is no big deal as far as I'm concerned. One thing to take note of: We have one of these installed in the hallway, but each bedroom has an ac-powered smoke and Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector installed. When testing the detectors, if we test the system via the RF-SM-AC unit (or the wireless RF unit downstairs) the detectors in the bedrooms respond only with their smoke alarms, and not the CO alarms. If you want both alarms tested you need to trigger the system from a detector that has both alarms. Inside the box is a notice that the detector shouldn't be used around fluorescent lighting, or radio transmitters. This was bad on both counts for me, because we have fluorescent lighting almost exclusively (I'm in California) and I have an Amateur Radio license. Thus far we have had no difficulties with the lighting causing false triggering of the RF detectors. I used my Amateur Radio HT (walkie-talkie) around the detector downstairs, and nothing happened. So far so good. I haven't tried my HF (shortwave) transmitter yet, so we'll see how that goes. A final word on electrical wiring. If you're installing new detectors and need to run new wiring or make a change to the electrical system, get a permit for the job and get your work inspected. That way you'll be sure it's done right, and according to local ordinances.
Review: Works Great - Purchased this item to connect wired network of detectors upstairs to remote detectors which are wireless Kidde 0919-9999/ RF-SM-DC Battery-Operated Smoke Alarm, Wirelessly Interconnectable . The unit is easy to install and includes 2 adapter plugs to allow easy connection without replacement of the old wiring harness (which was a First Alert in my case). The unit works great and has no problems triggering through 2 floors to a detector in the "back area" of our basement where the furnace is located. Triggering to other wired units is just as flawless. Of course, the units must be on the same wiring circuit - this is not a flaw of this alarm but has to do with how the units trigger one another...the red wire "goes hot" when the detector goes off and that powers the other detectors in the wired network. Of course, before installing it you should carefully determine which circuit goes to the detector (not always a trivial task compared to determining circuit for, say, a lamp or TV) and turn off the power.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wireless Interconnection
*by P***G on May 29, 2011*

These Kidde wirelessly interconnectable smoke alarms are the best hope for legacy homes that do not have the red interconnection cables between smoke alarms. I bought a pair of these Kidde wirelessly interconnectable smoke alarms when a previous pair of First Alert smoke alarms proved to have very limited range. The First Alert smoke alarms could not interconnect wirelessly between the basement and the 2nd floor. I removed the First Alert smoke alarms and replaced them with the Kidde smoke alarms which interconnected flawlessly. An alarm at one detector causes an alarm at the other detector despite being separated by two floors. The Kidde smoke alarms have another advantage over the First Alert smoke alarms. They can be hardwired to 120-volt AC circuits with the batteries providing backup. The wireless First Alert smoke alarms are battery-powered only and require constant vigilance to replace the batteries before they run down. Each of the Kidde smoke alarms have 8 DIP switches that are used to specify a unique frequency used by every wireless Kidde smoke alarm in the house. This setting can prevent interference with a Kiddle smoke alarm in a neighboring house. These DIP switches are similar to those found in many garage door openers. I found the Kidde technical support line to be quick and knowledgeable. The attendents came on the line quickly and were able answer all of my questions.
