## Description

desertcart.com: ARCTIC MX-4 (incl. Spatula, 4 g) - Premium Performance Thermal Paste for All Processors (CPU, GPU - PC), Very high Thermal Conductivity, Long Durability, Safe Application : Electronics

Review: Trusted Thermal Paste with Noticeable Temp Drop and Long‑Term Reliability - I picked up this Arctic MX‑4 thermal paste because I ran out of paste on my current CPU and wanted something high quality to get my temperatures back down and make sure my cooler was properly seated. I do a lot of PC building for gaming, content creation, and occasional 3D work, so good thermal management is important to me. Even though it’s sitting in my PC parts bag right now waiting for my next re-paste, Arctic MX‑4 has a strong reputation in the enthusiast community as one of the go‑to thermal compounds for everyday builds. It’s composed of carbon microparticles designed to fill microscopic gaps between the CPU and cooler to improve heat transfer more efficiently than stock paste or cheap alternatives. In my system before I retired it, my CPU temps under load were around 55–60 °C, with idle temps around 38–42 °C—and that was with strong airflow around the cooler and stock paste that had seen better days. Based on typical results people get with MX‑4, switching to this paste often results in a noticeable drop in temps, around 3–5 °C, versus older or stock thermal compounds, which matches what many builders report when they upgrade. One of the things I like about MX‑4 is that it’s non‑electrically conductive, so there’s no risk of shorting anything while applying it. It’s also known for long‑term stability, Arctic advertises years of performance without needing to reapply, which gives me confidence that once I put it on, it’ll stay effective through several builds or CPU cooler swaps. Application was easy with the included spatula, and I appreciate that it’s a trusted, tried‑and‑true paste that many builders still use instead of stock stuff. If you’re upgrading your cooler or just need to refresh your TIM, this is a solid, affordable pick that’ll help keep temps in check without being overkill.
Review: As good as it's gets and priced very fairly! - As good as the product that cost 8x (yall know what brand I'm speaking of) I have used both on my very high powered gaming setup and this Artic MX4 is as good as any I've used. Enough in the tube for 4-5 applications and the best part is the price to performance. This stuff lowers my hot running I9 14900kf that's over clocked to the max running a quality 360mm AIO down 7 to 9°C over most products and matches the temps of the 40 dollar a tube stuff (you know the brand). The viscosity makes application super easy with just 5 dots and let the pressure from the AIO heat sink spread it out and no worries of air pockets. It holds it's viscosity well and doesn't dry out like a lot of pastes do and that's a huge bonus as it lasts a very long time. The thermal conductivity of this stuff is top tier and competes with the best but at a much more realistic price point. I wouldn't trust a 8k dollar machine to a poor product, I have used the best that cost a ridiculous price and checked it head to head VS this product and this product competes perfectly with it, temps are within +-1°c between this and the best product on the market. With my cooling setup and the infamous hot running I9 14900kf I have no problem maintaining sub 70c temps with higher loads on the system and it's really hard to get it to break 80c with this paste, you have to really be pushing the system HARD. with other budget priced pastes it's easy to get 80C without even pushing it all that hard but this stuff transmits the heat so well over to the cooler that it's just hard to get the temps up. Dollar for dollar easily the best thermal paste on the market. With the best product being around 45 a tube and this being 6 for the same amount of weight and having a +-1c difference between the pastes you have to be a kook to buy the expensive stuff as this performs IDENTICALLY TO IT. Do yourself a favor and save 40 bucks and get this. A 1g tube of the other stuff is 13 bucks and a 4g tube about 45 and here you get 4g of a equal performance product for 6-7bucks lol it's a total no brainer!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is it rgb?**
A: Of course it is! I mean, why wouldn’t it be?

**Q: Roughly how many applications will you get out of one tube?**
A: I still have more than half of a 4g tube left, 4 years after I bought it - it has an eight year shelf life, IIRC... I haven't kept track for certain, but I think I've done at least 5 applications or more and still have half a tube left. Crazy thing is right now, for $1 less, you can buy the 8g tube from Amazon directly rather than the 4g tube from the other seller - seems a no brainer. Great stuff.

**Q: Is it VR ready?**
A: This is best used between the inner pad of your VR headset and your forehead. Before each use I clean my head with 70% isopropyl. Then I apply the thermal grease in a thin straight line from one temple to the other (make sure your hair is out of the way). This keeps my forehead cooler while transferring the heat from the VR set. Tested on Oculus 2

**Q: Does this paste hold the heat sink on its own on a Blackberrys Pi device? How much time does it take to cure to hold the heat sink like a glue?**
A: Better find thermal adhesive like for heatsink .

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A most under-appreciated item.
*by C***G on July 5, 2021*

I am about a week on the other side of a recent system build. Meaning that the new system has been in service for about a week. Why did I label this an under-appreciated item? Because without it the CPU probably wouldn't have lasted a minute. Ok, the truth is that if one is building on a motherboard built this century, then the board itself is probably smart enough to shut things down before the CPU cooks. But if one has built a system in the past year, then one knows just how difficult it is to get the core components at present. So, yeah, cooking the CPU would have a more profound and less recoverable connotation. Enter, thermal paste. More specifically, enter one of the most recent formulations of thermal paste. I chose this one because it has significantly higher thermal transmission gradient than the best formulations available just a few years ago, and came in at half the price of its next competitor (at the time of purchase). In reality, they are all priced about the same, but many come with half the volume of stuff inside the tube. And suppose one makes a mistake the first time had needs a do-over (that didn't happen to me, but I prepared for it none the less). So, at about $9 for 4 ml; if this were gasoline it would cost over $170K to fill a 20 gal tank! The other guys were selling 2 ml for the same price so thankfully my car doesn't run on this stuff. But not using it can spend about $200 to $20,000 (Intel Xeon and AMD Epyc CPU builds can start touching this magnitude of cash) in less than a minute. So far, I have stressed my system during video rendering and compositing on a few occasions - it's ok, that's what it was built to do. The CPU is factory rated at 90 degrees C - that's almost hot enough to boil water, but that is the factory established LIMIT. Using this paste along with a liquid-cooled thermal management scheme, my CPU has never gone above 61C during any operation to date including the most stressful. The thermal paste is the transmitter between the CPU and the heatsink. So no cooling strategy will be any more efficient than the paste will allow. Another reason for purchasing a tube with extra paste; some builds use more than one CPU, and sometimes there's an options to provide additional cooling to the GPU. M.2 memory tends to run pretty warm and use heatsinks as well. The point being, anytime there's a heatsink, using thermal paste at the junction will enhance the heatsink's ability to cool the component - the better the paste, the more efficient the cooling. And cooler components run faster and smoother. Solid State memory slows down significantly at higher temperatures, it's called throttling for anyone looking at their first build. So I probably used less than 1 ml to install the CPU - it's more art than exact science, but having more left over is helpful if one has numerous heatsinks to treat during the build. This paste emerged from the tube in a predictable manner - which is good considering the cost per ounce. It came with a mini-spatula for spreading. It sort of resembles a pizza peel if one were providing their pet hamster with its own pizza oven, but I digress. Spreading the paste prior to installing the CPU cooler was very easy and controllable. I was able to achieve edge to edge over the CPU without any dripping to the motherboard - nice, neat, mess-free application. There's also a rating for noise level....ok....um...this paste is pretty quiet. (Amazon asks reviewers to rate a few areas that are not necessarily presented in the public review space other than as an aggregate score). My CPU was at 24C (room temperature) when I powered up this afternoon. It is now at 37C and hasn't gone above 43C during this session. That was probably during Windows boot up. It runs typically between 34C and 38C during low demand. I have read some reviews in which folks describe their systems as running nominally ay 70C! (Methinks these are gaming rigs under full load). So, I guess based on all of this, this paste is pretty effective. But it can only be as effective as the rest of the cooling system it supports. At least I can confidently say that it is not likely to be a weak link - and it has a rating for efficacy over 8 years! I would purchase it again - but I wouldn't fill the gas tank with it.
