This classic novel is beautifully written and a must read.
I was prompted to buy this book following the release of a new film version of the story. I found the book beautifully written and the story very appropriate for the age it was written. To me it demonstrated the division between rich and poor, it did not read as a love story at all but one of hard decisions for status and financial gain. I would recommend this classic novel.

Very different on a second, decades later, read of this world famous novel.
A harsher, madder, more unrelenting story than I remember from a first reading decades ago of this world famous novel. I was very interested in the second, more neglected, half of the story. The relationship between Hareton and the younger Catherine would be a great starting point for a future film version. A trick missed by the most recent version.

Unsure.
I love the Bronte sisters' works but compared to all of my classmates who read this with me during A-level English, I didn't enjoy it too much. Maybe it was because I had to analyse the novel in-depth so that made me despise it sometimes. However, the literary devices used by Emily are absolutely great. There are many fantastic quotes in that book - it's worth a read.

Excellent edition
This Penguin edition has a nice introduction to the novel and a glossary at the back for difficult words /explanations. I like the print which is no strain on the eyes. It also contains volumes 1 and2 of the novel. I read the book along with York Notes (by Claire Steele) for more information and understanding.

Always best to read the book. Still my favourite. What would have been Emily Brontë next book if she had lived.
