They remind me of a small eraser - same rubbery texture. I tossed one in each of the small drawers and parts compartments in the tool box I haul around during the summer, as it tends to sit around unopened for a couple of weeks at a time - or an entire winter. I hate opening it up to a rust bloom on all the tools, and wiping them al with oil or wax is a pain.
