The wooden handles roll, and so you cannot ever get a firm grip.
My husband did tighten up the bolts on the end, so they are more secure.

Total waste
These hooks must have been designed by a 3rd grader. I have used bale hooks since to early 70s. These things are to short in the hook to penetrant the end of the bale. Hell I have to take 3 or 4 swings at it, and hope it holds.

Excellent hay hook
I struggle so much with hay bales. Now instead of trying to get my fingers under the strings, breaking my nails, in order to pull a bale, I can slam the curved edge into it and easily drag the whole thing toward me. The point is sharp! The handle accommodates gloved or ungloved hands. The 360 degree rotation isn’t necessary OMO but I’m sure it has a purpose. Very handy helpful tool to add to our farm.

Not bent quite far enough to hook well.
These hooks look good, but in actual use they aren't quite bent far enough to grip well even with light (60 pound) bales. The lightweight nature of the product only makes this factor worse since there is little mass behind a swing to force the hook into the bale. Will have to modify to make them useful at all.

Solid Hay Hook
We needed a better way to handle our hay bales since trying to grab the strings was not working. Got this hook and it makes moving bales so much easier. It is thick so no worries about bending. The wooden handle is not stationary and can swivel. I'm not a fan of this feature since it doesn't help with maneuvering the bale but does make it easier on your wrists. Overall, very happy with this hook and should last many years.
