Finally, a Thermacell product I love!
I have to admit, I've never been a fan of Thermacell products in the past. They always seemed bulky and inconvenient, and I often found myself resorting to other methods to keep those pesky mosquitoes away during my camping trips. However, the Thermacell Backpacker Mosquito Repeller, Gen 2.0, has completely changed my perception. First and foremost, the flexibility this product offers is unparalleled. Instead of relying on proprietary fuel cartridges, it conveniently runs on camping fuel canisters. This means I can use it for an extended period without worrying about constantly purchasing replacement cartridges. This level of adaptability is exactly what I needed, and it has greatly enhanced my outdoor experience. The backpacker mosquito repeller is incredibly efficient at creating a mosquito-free zone. The repellent mats that come with it do an outstanding job of repelling those bothersome insects, allowing me to enjoy the serenity of nature without constant buzzing and biting. The repellent mats are easy to insert and replace, ensuring a hassle-free experience. One aspect I appreciate is the water-resistant bag that accompanies the repeller. It provides protection against unexpected rain showers and accidental splashes, keeping the device safe and operational even in damp conditions. The sturdy construction of the repeller itself gives me confidence in its durability, and I feel assured that it will withstand the rigors of outdoor adventures. In terms of design, the Backpacker Mosquito Repeller is compact and lightweight, making it highly portable. It easily fits into my backpack without taking up much space, allowing me to carry it effortlessly on my camping and hiking trips. The simple on/off switch and the visible fuel level indicator are thoughtful additions that enhance usability. I must say, this Thermacell Backpacker Mosquito Repeller, has truly won me over. It addresses all my previous concerns about Thermacell products and has become an essential part of my camping gear. If you've been skeptical about Thermacell like I was, I strongly recommend giving this particular product a try. It offers exceptional performance, long-lasting usage, and the freedom to choose your own fuel canister. Finally, a Thermacell product that ticks all the boxes for me!

A version you can use abroad with an adapter for butane
The answer for having Thermacell abroad. I bought the CampingMoon adapter to be able to use this with a butane canister (for camp stoves), and it works great. And just a hint, you can buy a Thai brand of the pesticide pads in Thailand that will work with this. I was really missing my thermacell in Thailand and you can’t even get this guy shipped to Thailand, but I can take it in my luggage since it has no fuel or batteries, etc. Have tested it with the adapter and it works great.

Very effective!
Some people attract more mosquitos than others based on several factors. I can sit next to my wife and be fine while she gets bit up. So I purchased this product as well as the electric version. I run them both when my wife is with me and they are very effective in repelling mosquitos. I take the Backpacker version with me when hiking and camping. I like that it can use the same fuel canisters as my camping stoves. The canisters come in a variety of sizes so I take a small canister if only using the repeller and not taking a stove. This repeller also uses very little fuel. I recommend this product.

Works decently! Way better than hiding in your tent
Used this on a recent trip in Idaho’s Sawtooths, where May-Aug is typically terrible for mosquitoes. Friends who’d camped without it the few days prior said there was a huge noticeable drop in bites and mosquito presence overall when we used it - they were convinced. We were near ~7K feet, so right at that threshold where they say it doesn’t burn hot enough to disperse the repellent. It did seem to work anyway! Mostly. We probably won’t get to test it above that until later in summer anyway when mozzies are less of a problem. Took a few min to kick in; in the meantime it was funny to see curious lil bastards practically landing on it, and us, to investigate, but after a while their numbers did seem to drop considerably and we were no longer playing “slap your neighbor” every 5 seconds. It was not a 100% reduction, but noticeable. The advertised “15-20ft” radius is also not accurate. Maybe 5-10ft where they *really* mostly stay away The wind kept shifting constantly so there was no “upwind/downwind” for us to position it better. It also did not repel mosquitoes or anything else from trying to enter our tents that were only ~10ft away, so a bunch just hung out under the rain fly biding their time until they could sneak through an open zipper. We basically huddled around this thing while it was burning and even carried it around a few times to keep our “bubble” going. There is a minimal noticeable odor up close, and you can kinda see it, but it’s nothing like a Citronella candle or bug spray. Very mild in comparison. Friends said they couldn’t smell it at all. Size & weight - totally worth it to cut the bug hassles by even 50%, which I think we did. Camp stove fuel we were carrying anyway but brought a spare for this as we had no idea how much it’d use. Seems pretty minimal as well - only a tiny flame. Duration - also maybe slightly less than advertised. We got 2-4hrs out of each little pad before bugs started to show up again. Went through I think 4 total during about 10hrs at camp. Having to buy more disposable pads is probably the most annoying aspect of this product - hate generating (& having to pack out) more trash. Durability - I wonder how long the little push-button igniter will hold up. That part always seems to break on bbq grills & our Jet Boils, but those you can at least light w a lighter instead. This thing is contained so if that piece breaks I’m pretty sure the whole unit becomes useless, which would be a shame. So far it seems sturdy, and I liked the ergonomic grip/squeeze to light it. We’ll see. Overall, it seems effective and worth the weight/space to bring it along! Definitely will use it for car camping & maybe even at home; backpacking trips - only certain seasons and trips due to the elevation limit. Will give it a shot later on a 8-9K trip and see if it still works or not. If not it’ll probably stay home.

This Is a Handy Addition To Your Outdoor Gear
Wow! This is a mighty powerful repellent when you go backpacking/camping. I'm so happy I bought this!. It runs off an isobutane canister so no recharging needed, the repellent pads last a good while and it actually works! For what it accomplishes, the price is well worth it. I used it outdoors for my last two camping adventures and I was kept clear of mosquito bites. An excellent product that I highly recommend!

Skepticism dissipated! Evaporated! Buy this, but read the instructions!
Mosquito repellent products ALWAYS come with a healthy dose of skepticism. Repellents always make you taste bad, smell bad or also repel your loved ones too. We camped just off a lake shore, near a marsh, that was also near a rain forest. The mosquitoes were aggressive, came in large numbers and were pretty big in size too. In the 4 minutes it took to exit the kayaks and pull them up on shore, I'd already killed 11 mosquitoes on just my forehead alone. It was then that I knew we would be in for a rough time once the wetsuits came off. But my friend had one of these thermacells with him and it was his first time using it. I admit, I made a face when he pulled the thing out once we made camp. Childhood memories of my many, many experiences with various forms of mosquito "repellant" swam through my head as he set it up. The mosquitoes were absolutely nuts and were swarming around our heads in literal clouds, getting in our eyes, noses, ears and yes, I know I swallowed several just by breathing in... But we're not going to talk about that. It was bad. Really bad. My friend finally located the bag with the repellant, popped in a pad and turned it on. We stared at it questioning if we did it right, double checked the directions and checked several times to see if the thing was even on since it made zero noise - which was excellent because we were absolutely in love with the songs the mosquitoes were singing in our ears. He turned this thing on and... Just like that, the mosquitoes cleared the space about as fast as 'that guy' who lets a rotten one out at the checkout line at the grocery store. Cleared the space so well, but there was no odor, no real smoke, just.... Clear, mosquito free air. It really was nice and the relief was sudden. The others started emerging from their tents and could also enjoy the relatively small, but mosquito free space to cook and sit. I feel this really saved the camping trip - turning it from a pretty miserable trip into a positive and memorable one. The first thing I did when I got cell phone service again was to buy two, and then I went camping again. Yes, the thermacell inspired another camping trip. I had to see this work once more! The combined powers of my two new thermacell units and his repellant unit, really did improve the quality of experience we had on that first trip and the second one. What also surprised me was how little fuel the product used. One little can of propane lasted a week long camping trip. It's so easy to use even their 10 year old set it up on their own while we were all preparing for the next leg of our trip. The product doesn't let off any light, though it does burn propane. I highly recommend this product, but read the directions and understand the ingredients you're working with and how to properly handle it. Just don't be dumb and out it in your eyes... And for the love of... - don't eat it. I hope this helps :)

It works!!! I love it!
I have my leather working bench outside and am out there for most of the day everyday. The mosquitoes are extremely annoying and I've tried everything to keep them off me to no avail. A friend recommended the thermocell backpacker and said it works perfectly. I finally bought one not really expecting much from it, but worth a try. I set it up in the evening and as I was the mosquitoes were swarming me. About 20 minutes later I realized there wasn't one mosquito around me. The next day I set it up and started working, and realized that not only were there no mosquitoes, but the flies were notbothering me either!!! This thing works for all flying bugs! Even the moths and other bugs that swarm around lights. Frickin awesome product!!!

Bug kicker device
Had this for a couple months now and have been using it regularly on my patio. Living somewhere with a serious mosquito problem, I was skeptical anything short of a bug zapper or DEET would make a dent. This thing proved me wrong. The 15-foot zone is pretty accurate in my experience — stay reasonably close to it and you're covered. I set it on the table while sitting outside in the evening and noticed a real difference within the first few minutes of it warming up. No bites, no constantly swatting at my face. What I actually appreciate most is that it's scent free and DEET free. I've got kids and a dog and I'd rather not spray chemicals on everyone. This just sits there and does its job quietly. Battery life has been reliable — I haven't run out mid-session yet. The refill situation is straightforward once you get the hang of it, though keep in mind you'll need to budget for those ongoing. Only thing worth noting: it needs a few minutes to kick in, so turn it on before you sit down, not after the mosquitoes are already at you.
