    Amazing series! WATCH IT!

*by E***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 July 2015*

This is a must watch series. Be patient with the first episode - it sets the scene and you will find many clues that appear later in the series. Slow to start, but at the halfway point of that first episode - bang! (literally!) - you're in the thick of the action! And so it remains for the rest of the series. With beautiful scenery, fabulous sets and great acting, it's a roller coaster ride of thrilling drama, romance, sword fights, emotional tension and subtle comedy.A few reviews make reference to the sex scenes and violence and understandably, this may not appeal to some. Howevever, I did not find it too gratuitous or offensive and actually thought these scenes had a relevance, adding to the dramatic tension and emotion. The last two episodes are the ones that are mentioned most as they are quite graphic, but they are also integral to the continuing storyline (if the books are anything to go by). The acting in these two particular episodes by the two leading males playing the characters of James Fraser and Jack Randle - is absolutely outstanding! All the actors are great throughout and make up a fabulous cast, albeit with a few dodgy, but forgivable Scottish accent slips,As for portraying the English in a bad light, as one reviewer complained - read up on your history..... We English were bad! Very bad! And ashamedly so really, let's be honest! So portraying this as part of a historical drama shouldn't be frowned upon.Anyway, apart from the sex scenes, violence and the big, bad, nasty English folk, this is a fabulous series and very worthy of a watch. It was a smash hit in the USA and in other countries and it would not surprise me in the least if Outlander gained a cult following here. It may be worth noting that the second series is currently being filmed and there are also 8 books in the series (this series covered the first book), so hopefully, it is here to stay for some time!Watch it - it's fabulous!P.s. For those complaining that the UK was the last to get viewing rights, there was a rumour (and probably just a silly rumour!) that a special request from 'the powers that be' had been made that the series be postponed from being aired here until after the Scottish referendum and the general election!! Would you believe it?! Hmmmmm.....

    Awesome

If you have read the books then you know what to expect but if you haven’t then you’re in for a real treat. It’s basically a love story about one woman, Claire Randall, played impressively by Caitriona Balfe. She is torn between two lovers in two vastly different worlds, but it’s really so much more than that and crosses so many genres it’s difficult to classify. It’s the beginning of an intricate plot that will take you on a journey that involves history, adventure, mystery, time travel, sex, romance, politics, religion, violence, rape, murder, intrigue, and a really bad baddie, which is always good, and a little humour to lighten the mood now and again...what more could you want? Apart from series two of course, which they will start filming later this year. I have watched all eight episodes, which are the first half of series one and they were all fantastic, I can’t wait to see the second half. I was worried that they might not live up to the brilliant books written by Diana Gabaldon that I have been reading for many years, but they did. The adaption follows the books almost word for word most of the time and the small changes that have been made do not detract from the main storylines. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful, the music is unforgettable, the costumes and sets are very authentic, the casting is perfect and the actors are exceptionally talented, especially Sam Heughan who seems to have intensely studied his character, Jamie Fraser, right down to his twitching fingers. For those reviewers who have complained about the lack of subtitles for the Gaelic dialogue, you have to realise that everything you see is from Claire’s point of view and she didn’t understand what they were saying either, so in a way this helps you to experience the confusion she is feeling about what has happened to her and what is going on around her.If you liked it and you haven’t read the books then I strongly advise you to do so, there are eight of them so far and you won’t be disappointed. If you have read the books then you won’t be disappointed either. Although some of the characters may not look exactly like the ones in you have conjured in your imagination, the series so far has managed to bring the book so vividly to life it’s impressive to say the least.Thank you Diana Gabaldon for your wonderful books, to Ronald D Moore for all your hard work and also to Amazon Prime for finally bringing Outlander home to the UK.

Loved this story and bought all the CD's. Some were really expensive but just persevered until we got them all at a reasonable cost
