Two of the Best in the Business
I originally purchased this compilation on cassette in 1995. Side A ("Defend Apache" through "Tek Weh Yu Girl") belonged to Beenie Man, and Side B ("Name Yu Call" through "Gun Pop Off") belonged to Mad Cobra. This disc adds an additonal tune for each artiste ("Gun Finger" for Beenie and "Look Yu Man" for Cobra) but it adds them at the end after five Cobra songs in a row, so it sort of throws of the rotation. I'm not sure why the Shocking Vibes engineers couldn't just insert "Gun Finger" after "Tek Weh Yu Girl" so that the Beenie/Cobra format pioneered on the cassette could be preserved. This compilation was made before either Beenie or Cobra attempted to crossover to an American/International audience (and for those of you who would argue that Cobra never attempted to crossover, I'd advise you you pick up his "Sexperience" album and then check me again) so all of the tunes are pure dancehall bangers. Of course, most of the tracks are concerned with gun talk or (to a lesser extent) the sexual conquests of the deejays, but this is par for the course with mid-90s dancehall.Mad Cobra and Beenie Man are two of the best deejays in the business, and this compilation stands as a fine showcase for both of them.
