I finally got the leak fixed and used a product called "oh yuk" to try to clean out all the black flakes from the tubing. I thought that I had everything cleared out after 5 or 6 runs. So I figured why not throw one in just to compare the bubbling. To my shock after running for only one minute the "SpaKleen" product had actually cleaned out even more black flakes. In fact there were a ton of black flakes in the water after running the "SpaKleen". Which I know might sound like a bad thing but it's not it's a very very good thing. It means that it was cleaning even more out of the system than what the oh yuk product was able to get. I attached a video explaining all of this. It's worth the watch. But the short version is if you have a choice between this and the other major product that people tend to use, without a doubt I would choose "SpaKleen" over any other. I know that sounds like a BS commercial, but I'm a real consumer that was just so blown away by how well this product works that I wanted to make the effort to put a review out of it to help others. Do not double dose or tub might foam over. More is not better in this situation. Foaming will occur and you will see the debris (Bio-film, Hair, Body Oils, and Body fats) from inside the tubs circulating system dislodge and collect on top of the foam and around the edges of the tub. This is how you know that SpaKleen is working. You do not have to fill the tub up again and flush out. The best way to apply the SpaKleen product is after you have used the tub, as long as you have not added anything into the water while using your jetted bath you can use the water you soaked in so you don't have to drain it and fill it up again. This will save you money on your water bill. If you put any bath beads or oils to soak in the SpaKleen product will be fighting the other products in the water and not work on the build up inside the jets, pipes and pump where it clings to. Would it help to let it sit overnight?** A: No the product is dead after 15 minutes, when you have black flakes coming out that it from a lot of build up over time, you can clean the tub back to back with good hot water until you don't see them anymore and then you should be cleaning after every use or at the least every third use. you will always see some stuff come out because when you get in you are leaving behind your body oil, skin, and hair which sticks to the plastic pvc pipe that makes up the circulating system for the jets pump and air inlets, but you can most definitely get on top of it, I have been doing this for 20 years and I sell to many hotels and motels so I have seen some bd tubs in my time and I was able to get on top of every one of them. You really don't want to use any type of bath oil beads in the water or soap, the tub is made to soak in but you can use epsom salt, and sea salt none of those put build up in the tub and you can use the same water you soaked in when your going to flush clean with SpaKleen so you save on water and the gas to heat the hot water tank. I have had people call me and say the product isn't working because they keep seeing stuff come out and the product is working because when you get a huge build up in a tub that has never been flush cleaned it's thick and it takes time to soften and emulsify the bio film and dislodge it to were you can see it in the tub, you will always see bio film on the foam at different levels but once your on top of it then you will see just some small pockets of brownish stuff sitting on top of the foam and this is good it means your removing the bio film that is being left behind after you soak in the tub. same concept as if you didn't wash your shower walls for six months it would have a huge amount of build up and you would really have to soak it down with a cleaner and scrub it, that's basically whats going on in the tubs circulating system, pump and jet's so just like you clean your shower you also have to maintain your jetted tub, I have been a master plumber for 42 years to date and had this issue with my tub and customers of mine so I cut into my pipe and put in a union so I could clean the tub and test different recipes I made and would watch the progress by taking the coupling apart and looking inside the pipes to see the difference as I was cleaning. SpaKleen is a neutral pH product so it won't hurt the tubs finish, pump, pipes or metal parts like the drain and faucet. If you have heavy build up on the tubs surface like soap you would really want to use a cleaner that is more aggressive and let it soak for a bit before scrubbing it off. I’ve run this product as directed (3 times) and you would not believe the filth. Even without the jets I’m not sure I want to put my body in the tub.
