One Thousand and One Nights is a collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age. It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights, from the first English language edition (1706), which rendered the title as The Arabian Nights' Entertainment. The original concept is most likely derived from an ancient Sassanid Persian prototype that relied partly on Indian elements, but the work as we have it was collected over many centuries by various authors, translators and scholars across the Middle East and North Africa. The tales themselves trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic, Persian, Indian, Egyptian and Mesopotamian folklore and literature. In particular, many tales were originally folk stories from the Caliphate era, while others, especially the frame story, are most probably drawn from the Pahlavi Persian work Hazar Afsan. Though the oldest Arabic manuscript dates from the 14th century, scholarship generally dates the collection's genesis to around the 9th century. (wikipedia) Review: Great book - Brilliant book. And cheap Review: Not what it says on the tin! - This is NOT the complete 1001 Arabian Nights. The book is very poorly produced poorly formatted and isn't even a good translation. The typeface is clear and the illustrations (B&W) ok. I bought it for my grandkids but it isn't suitable. It isn't even nice to hold as most books are. Save your money!

Damaged
Book cover is damaged. Thing is, it was probably damaged when it was put in the packaging. The lamination is coming off and there is something else stuck on the cover which looks like glue.

Arabian Nights
Arabian Nights is a collection of Middle Eastern folktales. It transports you to another time full of magic and fantasy. It is a wonderful read like Sinbad the sailor man,or Aladdin and the magic lamp. A book for all ages.

Sinbad is a better sailor than Popeye!
I reallylked finally getting all the Sinbad voyages at last. I love the illustrations and the least I like is that I don't have the time to read it yet! I am in the middle of a Conan saga and I have it finish that book first. I can skip around the ff's I write but not things I am reading! Those I must finish before starting on another book.

ANTISEMETIC!!!!!
I bought this book excited to share with my daughter some stories of Sinbad and Aladin that I loved as a kid. I was aghast when I got to a section referring to "The Jew" as a as "What a villan!" "I will let you see how much the Jew has cheated you."
