I am a very fit guy with a 40" chest and a 31" waist. I'll admit, it is tight, but an xl might be too loose and not have the compression I needed. Despite my athletic build, the compression still tightens everywhere without being too tight in one area or another. As far as reviews about the zipper digging into their skin...not sure if they are wearing the right size they need. The clips are phenomenal and help you zip this thing up...makes it super easy to zip. And there is a little flap that covers the clip and zipper that will prevent the metal parts from touching your skin. You will feel a little protrusion from the zipper lining, but if you have the right size, it won't be terrible.UPDATE: I've been wearing the large compression shirt, post surgery, for a few weeks and it feels great. It has been cool under clothing during hot days while going to work and daily activities but will still make you sweat from the extra layer. Workouts have been good with free movement and again, the extra layer just like anything else will be a little warmer...so you will enjoy sweating a little more. I ended up buying a second shirt to cycle clean shirts but ended up getting a large that was smaller than my first order! It was so small that it left bruising on some of the areas of my stomach and shoulders. I emailed the seller and they apologized and stated that they are all made the exact same, but ended up sending me another large right away. I received the second large within four days and it fit just like my first one. Very odd, but nonetheless, this product has been a life saver post surgery! Thanks! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fits and works great *by E***A on Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2018* I wear an XL and was looking at different reviews on different products to see what size that I should get. Everyone was normally buying a size 1 size smaller so I ended up getting a large. Wasn't too worried if it wouldn't fit as I could have easily return it and get the next size up. When it came in I was a little worried cause it looked like it would be too small but after seeing how stretchy it was, it eased my mind. The hook and loops is what came in important because I know I would have a hard time zipping up if there wasn't those hooks and loops. Got it on and it instantly slimmed me down noticeably. Wore it all day and it never rode up like some compression shirts do. It feels like it helps support my posture a bit and I was able to start wearing shirts that became a little tighter on me. It came in with no defects, which is a plus. I'm happy that I got one size smaller as I feel that if I got the XL it wouldn't have been as effective.
