It is one of the rare times when I do not feel guilty buying leather as it will be tough enough to stand up to daily use for years ahead and will improve as it ages. The ring mechanism is reasonably robust but should be fairly simple to replace should it fail as it is just held in with a couple of substantial interscrews. I am not sure how the black stain/polish will last on the outside and I might use some kind of polish to protect it. All in all it is an excellent product and I can highly recommend it.Oh yes, it is completely plain and does not have any tacky embossing.Edit: I have just given it a generous amount of leather care cream which is designed for car seats. The cover absorbed it all and only a trace of the black colour came off on the polishing cloth. I have bought a few A5 Filofax accessories and they all fit perfectly. I now have a useful A-z tabbed system, a ruler/bookmark, pen holder and even a calculator.
